The Last King of Scotland
While Nicholas Garrigan never existed, he was the sum of several people who were close to Idi Amin. Forest Whitaker was both charming and terrifying as Amin. James McAvoy, an up and coming actor was good with the character that was given him. He was much better in the later half of the movie when it became apparent that he was no longer the trusted advisor, but a target of the man who claimed ...

A film of substance
If you like light weight films like "Harold and Kumar go to White Castle "or "Pineapple Express", this film is not for you." The Air I Breath" is a film that explores how our actions affect others, in ways, that we can not begin to imagine. The film follows what happens when a man take an unforseen action that ends in tragety for himself, but ultimately ends in joy for another, through a series ...

Great movie. Just as I remembered it...my kids loved it, even in this day and age. Came quickly and was a brand new movie. Enjoy!

Fascinating and totally edge of your seat
I had read all the reviews that said the story was boring because of the format of the movie. Yet we did not experience this at all. In fact we were completely captivated throughout the entire flick. My wife and I found it to be really exciting! Each time the story "reset" so that you could see it from another vantage point, it was like an entirely new story that gave you more pieces of a ...

Stunning offbeat hitman movie
This is a real gem - a cool, Eastern influenced assassin movie. It has a great performance from Forest Whitaker and some stunning action, as well as a heart and soul that place it well above the above hitman movie. This is a brilliant film, strongly recommended.

Best Prison Movie I've Seen!
I usually dont like prison movies or Kiefer Sutherland movies (although I love him as Jack Bauer in 24), so I was pleasantly surprised by how good this movie was! This is by far the best prison movie I've seen. The acting was superb, especially from Sutherland who did an excellent job portraying the two sides of his character: one moment a violent, vile, hard-core murderer who has committed ...

Dark, twisted story line with an unexpected ending
Forest Whitaker gives a powerful but understated performance in this strange twisted tale of family loyalty, greed and murder. Characters are deeply realized, plot is rock solid, and the directing is superb. Loved it.

I thought this movie was very gripping. I love movies that portray mostly military themes and this movie took that portrayal one step further by combining the elements of espionage and military power.

the story within the story
there's nothing i can add to the wonderful NY reviewers' comments here, except to say that if you enjoy this movie, watch for "auggie wren's christmas story" - the story within the film of auggie tracking down the magazine thief using the lost wallet. like "smoke," (also based on a story by auster) it's available in book form, and its charming small size makes it an excellent stocking stuffer. i ...

Fun Entertainment, not for Kids
This is a nice period film in the "Cotton comes to Harlem" style. It's a kind of 50's gangster action comedy, with a southern twist. The film has high quality production values, and Danny Glover, Robin Givens, Forrest Whitaker, and Gregory Hines all turn in great performances. As an added bonus, when you see Robin Givens in that Red Dress (They had to sew it on her for the movie), you'll finally ...

M*A*S*H Revisited
This is a great movie that shows the state of government red tape in the care of those who defended our freedom. It does tend to overplay the actions of the doctors a bit, but overall it is a good movie. It reminds of M*A*S*H a great deal. Ray Liotas character is Hawkeye, Sutherlands character is BJ and several other chracters are definetly M*A*S*H rewrites.

A+++++ Acting
I wish I didn't have alot of the dialogue memorized whenever I decide to rewatch "The Crying Game". That is the only drawnback. I love the performances the best, which are classic cinema to me. It's actually quite difficult to pinpoint the brilliances of each actor since they all trumped eachother with moments of brilliance in their performances. I of course love Jaye Davidson's character, I ...

Transition into the witness protection program isn't easy
This 1992 HBO film dealt with a subject that has always fascinated me and yet I knew little about. What happens to a family that goes into the witness protection program? What kind of problems do they face? And how, exactly, does the transformation work. This film attempts to answer some of these questions. And, if the characters are a little larger than life, and the story sometimes dips to ...

Essential Ornithology
Some time after Unforgiven in the 90s I began to revise my thoughts about Clint. I had been used to him being the prototype of the mindless wordless macho or the rightwing law and order guy. Hard to take him seriously. Then he became somebody else. I heard that he had made a film about Charlie Parker in the late 80s, but I never found that one. Well, now my daughter found it for me somewhere in ...
