A wonderful documentary:
If you are a fan of Hunter S. Thompson you will love this movie. The archival footage is extraordinary, and the interviews are great. Johnny Depp does top notch narration as Hunter. By the end of this movie, you really get a feel for the man that was Hunter S. Thompson. This was a very deep and moving experience. Even the soundtrack is flawless!(CCR, Lou Reed, Bob Dylan, Rolling ...

Genius!
Loved the original Office. Thought it would be hard to imagine Ricky Gervais in any other role than the one he played in Office or even come up with something close to it in quality. Extras completely surpassed my expectations. In a way it continues from where Ricky left in Office, as an aspiring entertainer but only finding himself the role of extras in movie sets. Again a brilliant chaplinesque ...

I liked it.
And I'm picky about movies. This is a lighthearted good time with a few belly laughs dispersed throughout. Clooney takes on that leader with a semi-goofy persona character that he demonstrated in "O'Brother where art Thou'. I'm not going to say that this movie mixes just the right amount of comedy, drama and romance to be perfect......it doesn't. But it is an entertaining, fairly ...

Elizabeth: The Golden Age is almost golden.
While not quite as great and flawless as its predecessor, Elizabeth, it is, however, something grander in scope for which character development suffers a bit. This sequel is filmed 10 years after the first one, but little is lost along the way. The same writer and director are back and, of course, so is Cate Blanchett delivering yet another knockout performance as the "Virgin Queen" desperate ...

American Gangster...
The positive reviews' already written says it all. The scene where Denzel's Lucas burns the $50,000 Chinchilla coat said it all for me. See what happen's when you show off? You draw unwanted attention to yourself! Lucas was on top of the world and still ended up in jail, his family in ruins. Great film (and object lesson) for the interested. I rate this movie: 5 stars!

Breakfast at Tiffany's
It's the classic opening scene of a timeless romantic comedy that many would recognize, Audrey Hepburn gets out of a big yellow taxi cab, while Henry Mancini's Moon River plays in the background, in a long elegant black evening gown with her diamond tiara, fabulously large pearl necklace and elbow length black gloves, she walks to the Tiffany's store window to look at the gorgeous jewelry and ...

"Do I have to spell it out for you?"
Dr. House is back for round 2 and hasn't lost any of the punch! Hugh Laurie, Robert Sean Leonard, Jesse Spencer, Omar Epps, Jennifer Morrison, and Lisa Edelstein reprise their memorable roles in Princeton Plainsboro Teaching Hospital for more medical mysteries and interhospital relational issues. A great concern for any sequel or season 2 is "Can they pull off the success of the first ...

How an east Texas congressman made Afghanistan safe for the Taliban
BEWARE SPOILERS!! (and pompous displays of semi-relevant erudition) Director Mike Nichols is a past master of women's point of view films that go beyond the narrow confines of the "chick flick." Silkwood (1983); Heartburn (1986); Working Girl (1988); and the very fine Postcards from the Edge (1990) come to mind. His first feature was an adaptation of Edward Albee's play Who's Afraid of ...

Every Man Fights His Own War
This movie is hugely underrated, and often poorly misrepresented. At least it appears so from a lot of these reviews. Perhaps as others have said, it was and still is marketed incorrectly, as some believe the absence of "War-like Violence" leaves much to be desired. But define war?? At least in its true, non text book sense and this movie will speak volumes. It's an incredibly intelligent, ...

Mental Illness Brought to the Screen Like Never Before
A Beautiful Mind is one of those rare movies that grace the silver screen once in a lifetime and touch our hearts and our minds in ways that other films which have attempted to replicate with similar material, have yet to achieve. For years movie goers have witnessed the world of mental illness and its horrors from an outside perspective, much like visitors to a zoo, observing life in captivity ...

The Manchurian Candidate, an updated political thriller
The political importance of The Manchurian Candidate, a movie based on the novel written by Richard Condon, is excellent because it teaches us how power corrupts and absolute power has the ability to corrupt people, process and society absolutely. Lina Navarini and I set out to see the version played by Frank Sinatra in 1962, followed by this remake by Denzel Washington. The first movie takes ...

Somewhere, somehow, someone.....
In a heartless time under a heartless regime, somehow, someone found a heart, and faced with a dilemma made a decision, that would impact the Lives of Others. It is a rare sign only seen in the best movies, and masterful how this movie builds up, and unwinds, and unwinds even more just as you think its already completely unwound. This story is as intricate as the inner working of a watch, ...

Chariots of Fire and Wings on Their Feet
I never saw Chariots of Fire when it was in the theater in the early 80's, but I became interested in it after I saw some of the sites where it was filmed when I was in Scotland recently. It's based on the true story of the track team of Great Britain in the 1924 Olympics in Paris. Eric Liddell has become one of my heroes -- standing for what you know is right even in the face of incredible ...
