Gruyere de Comté (1 Pound) by igourmet.com2 reviews

Fondue of Gruyere
This is the original cheese that I liked as a kid. The Swiss gruyere or gretzer is a bit harder and less fragrant, I think. The French do great justice to this cheese, and it is versatile beyond calculation. Not only good alone on bread with an apple on the side, it is great in Fondue and superlative as a topping for cauliflower au gratin or any au gratin.

Excellent cheese
The service from iGourmet is impeccable Everything arrived in perfect condition i.e. ripe (and therefore "stinky" just like it should be!!) The Styrofoam packaging was the perfect vessel for delivery; the cheese arrived "alive" from not being over chilled. I have not had cheese of this quality outside France, and this is the first time I have found "perfect" cheese in the US. If you ...

Tickled pink!
I wasn't sure what the quality or size would be. UPS had to delay the shippment a couple days due to bad weather and product still arrived cold. Packed very well with styrofoam and coldpaks. Cheeses vaccuum packed so I didn't feel like I had to eat all that cheese right away. Cheeses were sized well. Decent sized bricks and wheels. No ordinary cheeses. Things like Blueberry Stilton were ...

Port Salut by SAFR (8 ounces) by igourmet.com

igourmet

igourmet

The origin of Port Salut is closely linked to the French Revolution of 1789. Fleeing from the persecutions of the "Terror", a congregation of Trappist Monks set themselves up abroad and, in order to survive, learned how to make cheese. When they returned to France in 1815 they built a new abbey and continued to make their cheese. Port Salut is a semi-soft natural cheese that is easily recognized by its orange rind. Unlike many other French ...

In France, grape leaves freshly plucked from the vineyards are the traditional presentation for the wonderous array of French cheeses. These fine parchment leaves are extremely convincing replicas of those grape leaves. They provide a classic touch to the beautiful European tradition of serving a selection of cheeses at the end of the meal. Simply line a cheese board or serving basket with a single layer of these green and burgundy leaves to ...

Melted Cheese... but Customer Service was good
I was disappointed to get the cheese melted in the box upon arrival - it made quite a mess. Informed Customer Service and they sent another cheese right away. Unfortunately, it was even more melted the second time. Igourmet did reimbuse for the one cheese variety that melted... I was still stuck cleaning up the mess of melted cheese on the other two warm varieties. Perhaps not a good idea for ...

Yes, I Know Brie Cheese is Well Known and Delicious
I know that everyone is familiar with the distinctively mild Brie cheese. All of us love it to the extreme with grapes and water crackers. Still because I'm in a very cheesy mood, I thought I'd praise it anyway. I think that with a good wine selection and plate full of grapes, it's one the best appetizers. Festive meals like Christmas when it takes all day to make lasagna from scratch, it ...

Morbier (8 ounces) by igourmet.com

igourmet

igourmet

The first wheels of Morbier ever produced were made from milk leftover from Gruyere de Comte production. The cheesemaker would press the leftover curd from the evening production of Comte into a mold and cover it with a thin layer of ash to prevent it from both drying out and attracting flies. The next day he would add the leftover morning curd on top of the ash. The result is a two-layered semi-soft cheese with a complex fruity flavor and a ...

Morbier1 review

Tastes good, smells terrible
This cheese really has a nice, mild flavor, but you have to get past the smell first. I don't want to try to describe it, but it may very well be the WORST THING YOU EVER SMELL IN YOUR ENTIRE LIFE. I would sooner keep a dead skunk in my fridge then a wedge of Morbier, but if you're a cheese person, go ahead and try it, but take a shower after you're done.
