A Time For Being Brave

The reader would think this would be a kind of `fairy tale' story: a girl is diagnosed with cancer, she gets all the attention she needs, and she survives. This novel is not a fairy tale. "A Time for Dancing" is about two girls, Sam and Julie, who are seniors in high school. They love to dance, are inseparable, and best friends. Their world is perfect~ until Julie finds out she has cancer. It changes their lives, and it also changes people. Julie's ex-boyfriend, Jack, has a new girlfriend, and that's what Julie's center of attention was for a long time. Jack becomes mean towards Julie-and Sam- and he changes into a whole other person. When Julie goes back to school after a couple months with cancer, she encounters Jack and says to him, `"Thanks for all the cards and letters and flowers you sent me, it really meant a lot to me," she said. "I never sent anything to you," Jack replied. "No, you didn't, did you?" Julie said.'
Julie is so weak from the cancer; she can barely get out of bed at sometimes, yet go to school, dance rehearsal, talk to friends, and do all the normal things teenage girls get to do. On the other hand, Sam is trying to get through her life, because it's rough without Jules, as she calls her. She still tries to be with Julie as much as possible, but it still isn't the same. Julie does not understand that Sam is juggling school, dance rehearsals, her boyfriend, her mother, and her mom's boyfriend. This is truly an inspirational and emotional story about two girls on a difficult journey by themselves.
"A Time for Dancing" not only tells the story of Julianna Michaels, but also of Samantha. One thing that one was quite interesting and also enjoyable was that the chapters were `Julie' and `Sam'. You'd hear a part of the book in Julie's point of view, then in Sam's the next chapter.
It all starts out when Julie and Sam are at a party and Jack is there. He has a small role in the story, but is still vital to the characters~ he helps Julie get over him. Anyway, the story sort of revolves around Dance Company reheaersal, and that is where Julie's legs and back start hurting. She freaks out, but only because she is scared and in pain, and really scares everyone else. Julie;s mom takes her to the hospital, and after about three weeks and thirteen different doctors, Julie is diagnosed with diffuse histiocytic lymphoma, which is type of cancer.
All in all, "A Time for Dancing" will get the reader thinking not only about the characters and what took place in the story, but also about themselves. After reading this novel, they seem to have reached a better understanding as they go along this thrilling and touching journey with Julie and Sam.

One Word Changes everything... Cancer.

A Time for Dancing is a book specifically aimed for young adults- soft-hearted teenage girls to be specific. Completely inseparable since age the nine, Julie and Sam struggle to make it through what life throws their way. They dance at an exclusive ballet company together when they're not overly busy with their typical American high school lives. A Time for Dancing will take all readers through what happens in a short period of two girl's lives. The book is written alternating from Julie's point of view to Sam's in something like a diary format, so it is more clear, obvious, and better shown how the characters feel about people and situations, it also better portrays who they are.
The plot of A Time for Dancing follows Julie and her best friend Sam on a journey of sickness, pain, and typical teenage drama. Things were going great, but unexplained aches and pains start taking over Julie's life, and one word changes everything... one word earth-shattering tears their lives apart.... Just one word... Cancer. Diffuse Hystiocytic Lymphoma, but the specific word doesn't matter. All that matter's is that one word. Cancer. Sam and Julie have always had a special bond between them, a unique friendship. Don't think that the book is only about Julie's battle with cancer, ian t is also about friendship, overcoming problems, and learning to make decisions for yourself. A Time for Dancing is written in such a way that for the last chapter of the book, it will be hard to read through vision blurred by tears. The ending of the book truly is tear-jerking.
The setting of A Time for Dancing is in California. At a high school in San Francisco, Julie and Sam will play out their senior year. When the book changes whose point-of-view the story is coming from, it gets slightly confusing. This book is easy to become emotionally involved in- it could take place anywhere, happen to anyone.
Julie is motivated to beat her cancer and get on with her life- she wants more then anything to dance in her ballet company's show. Sam is motivated to stay close to Julie regardless of what is happening in both of their lives.
A Time for Dancing is recommended for sentimental and soft-hearted pre-teen and young teenage girls.

A Time For Dancing

"Be your own judge"

A Time For Dancing; believe it or not is a great book. Great dialogue, interesting plot, and oh my, the resolution is spectacular.
First there were two girls, Sam and Jules, which are completely inseparable. Then a terrible disease spread through her immune system shredding it to pieces and ruining her life. Poor Jules was a victim of cancer. At the beginning it was a horrific pain in her hip that would not go away and continued to get worse, until the terrible day that she passed away
The day that the whole mess started she and Sam were in dance class. She had a terrible pain but all the doctors that she and her family had gone to so far could not diagnose anything because they just couldn't seem to find anything wrong with her hip, not even any muscle or nerve damage. The doctors didn't even think about testing her for any diseases like cancer. Nobody was aware of the fact that she had cancer until she was seen by Dr. Conner. She remained to be seen by her as for she was the one who did all of the testing anyway, and she knew her the best also. Dr. Conner assisted Jules through her chemo sessions. The only problem with the chemotherapy was that the poison they were injecting her with made her extremely exhausted. She found herself avoiding all of her friends, she even stayed away from Sam, and that was her best friend!
A Time for Dancing is the story of the ways cancer ruined an innocent young girl's life and the damage that it also did to all of her family and friends. It makes real clear the way that rumors and stories get spread in school, and even outside of school. It makes even more clear the way that people act when they hear those rumors and feel sorry for you. People that Jules did not even know would walk up to her and start talking to her like they had known her, and been best friends for years. But at the same time, you can tell who your real friends are; they will care about you even when you have forgotten about them. Now that is how Jules and Sam were. They were each others "one and only" and that would never change.
Do you like emotional books; the kind that really gets you hooked like you are the person in the book? Well, I have got to tell you this is absolutely the book for you. It really gets you reading and you won't be able to put the book down...it is so realistic that it is scary!

A Time for Dancing
By Davida Wills Hurrin

Having a loved one with cancer is atrocious, but living with it is even worse. A Time for Dancing by Davidia Wills Hurrin shows both sides to cancer, having a loved one with cancer and living with it.
Julie and Sam are best friends who love to dance. But cancer tries to ruin Julie's dancing career and friendship with Sam. Will it? Or can it? The friendship was very strong before. Will it with hold the killer torment of cancer, or fail?

didn't know what was wrong. After seeing many, many doctors Julie found that she has cancer.

Julie Has motivation when it comes to dancing. When she found out she had cancer, her dance company was getting ready for a tour. After she found out she had cancer, Julie seeked treatment so she could continue dancing. Her motivation was to get better so she could dance in the tour. Motivation is a key element to the story.
A Time for Dancing really makes you think about how much time we have here with friends and family. We all should spend free time with them, get to know them better because your relation ship could be cut short, with or with out warning. To you or to your friend or family member. Life takes many twists and turns you may not be prepared for.
The story also shows everyone not to be afraid of the road of life. Accept the good as well as the bad. Learning from hat can help you in the future.
The book was well written and predicted that all young adult readers will love it.
A powerful, moving story that will touch your heart and bring tears to your eyes. Those who have read the book know what I'm talking about. It will bring emotions out of you and that's what a good book is about.
Julie feels left out when Sam goes out with friends. Sam feels left out when Julie goes to a party with her and all of their friends walk off with Julie, and she did not notice that Sam wasn't with them. Sam and Julie both feel as if their friendship has completely changed ever since Julie got cancer.
