Inspiring and heartfelt.. I'm hooked on Sarah Dessen!

"The Truth about Forever," the story of a teenage girl finding herself and discovering what the true meaning of life really is, hooked me from the very first sentence. An easy read, the book left me inspired and wanting more. Diffinitely a hit!

Dessen writes the best reality fiction!

I have read a few books by Dessen and i loved all of them but this one is THE BEST!
There is something about Dessen's books that always makes you feel it is your story. I could identify with Macy to the point that i would find myself wanting to cry when she finally broke and cried for her father's death. Her budding romance with Wes was like my dream come true. Wes was gorgeous , intelligent, sensitive , in short he made all the girls go 'sa-wwoon'.While reading this book i was feeling like i was Macy and this gorgeous guy was talking to me, playing 'truth' with me and i was going 'sawoon'.
I just loved Wes but other characters were also great. Like Wes's pregnant and forgetful Aunt Delia, Quirky and devil may care attitude young woman Kristy who's always looking for extraordinary boys, Wes's Weird brother Bert, who is too interested to see the 'End of the world', Or Kristy's quiet but observent sister Monica, All the character were so lovable that i hated to see the book end because i didn't want to leave these characters, not yet!
Macy was so different from all these characters because she was perfect, at least she was trying to be for her mother and her boyfriend but it was with them she realised that being perfect is nothing like being happy. Infact a perfect person can never be happy because a perfect person can never express how they feel and a person who suppresses his feeling can never be happy, like Macy wasn't before she met 'Wish' catering crew.
The way Macy and Wes fell in love was so different and real. And i fell in love with Wes along with Macy, and cried for her when they couldn't understand each other.
Macy's relationship with her mother was so beautifully written. I could completely understand Macy's desire to have her mother's approval and at the same time her need to rebel and just not be perfect sometimes. The best part about Dessen's book is that there is no one you don't understand. i could even understand her mother's need to be in control, and her stubborness to run Macy's life her own way.But she did come around in the end and i was very glad for that.
I loved this book and i would recommend it to everyone. I wouldn't want to restrict this beautiful book to only teenagers, because i am not one and i loved it.

I have high standards for Dessen

If this book were written by another author, it may have received more stars from me, as it is a good story, with good characters and an interesting plot. However, I have higher standards for books written by Sarah Dessen.

Macy, the main character, has spent the last year trying to be perfect. Her father died a couple of years ago while out running, and Macy still feels guilty that she chose to sleep in a bit instead of going with him that morning. Macy's older sister grieved enough for everyone, so Macy and her mother held their emotions in check and got down to the business of living a spotless life, free of surprises, disturbances or any sort of fun.

This summer, though, while her perfect boyfriend is away, Macy finds herself slowly unraveling. She hates the library job her boyfriend left for her. She finds herself wishing she could talk to her mom about her father. She begins to rethink the idea of perfection she's built up in her mind.

Macy ends up spontaneously deciding to accept a job offer with a chaotic catering company. All of those who work there have been touched by loss, and are able to understand her in a way nobody else does.

Although I liked the characters, I didn't find them as gripping as those from other stories of Dessen's. Wes seemed nice, but not very vivid, and I thought Macy was a bit weak. Kristy was so sweet and interesting but seemed to have no friends until Macy came along to fill that gap. That was unrealistic to me.

The Truth About Forever

The Truth about Forever, written by Sarah Deson, is a sad, happy, romantic, and an all around heart warming book that draws you into it and makes you think that it is real. The Truth about Forever is about a sixteen year old girl named Macy who witnesses her father's death and is never the same again. Macy is an all around good girl who's afraid of confrontation and most of all telling people what she thinks and feels, especially to her mom, a control hungry person who expects Macy to be the perfect daughter. Then Macy meets her first real group friends in a long time: Kristy, Bert, Caroline, Delia, and most importantly Wes. They help Macy see that it is ok to be sad and show it, you don't have to be strong for everyone all the time and that no one can be perfect and their flaws are what make them, them. These new thoughts get Macy to completely change her way of thinking and act like a normal kid not trying to be perfect, which her mother does not like at all. Through her journey Macy learns how to be more open and have more fun, also falling for Wes the mysterious, nice, and of course handsome, friend. While also battling an ongoing fight with her inner self about the day her father died. I love this book it will keep you guessing till the very end, flip-flop your emotions and make you never want to put the book down. If you like suspense, romance, and bit of comedy, this is the perfect book for you.

Macy's Summer; The Real Truth About Forever

Macy has just finished school, and with the past death of her father sill lurking after her, she is sure that she will have a very boring summer. Her boyfriend Jason is gone at `Brain Camp', and she has taken over his job at the library info desk. Then one day as Macy meets Wish catering; a catering company where anything is possible. She becomes friends with other teens who have experienced a death in the family, and even finds herself head over heals in love with one of the caterers. Wes is an artistic, good-spirited teen who Macy finds very enchanting. He sculpts original artwork, and sells in his shop. Wes and Macy carry on a huge truth or dare game throughout the story, teaching the readers more and more about themselves. Macy also has another problem. Her high-strung mother, who is pushing Macy way too far, telling her who (and who not) to hang out with. Although Macy's summer may turn out to be the hardest, she will learn what's fake, and what's meant to be, even if means losing things along the way.
I loved this story, and although in some areas it was slow, I thought that the way the Sarah Dessen explained Macy's character was amazing. She wrote in first person, a method I love; and every time Macy was hurt, or sad, she would do things like "just drive", or "just cry". I think that what would have made this book (The Truth About Forever), even better, Sarah Dessen could have related me more to the other characters; not only Macy. I felt like I knew Macy really well, but some of her friends, and Wes were more translucent. I couldn't picture them quite as well, and sometimes the things that the said or did didn't really fit who they were, like when Macy's Mom refused to go back to her beach house even when her daughters spent endless hours preparing for it. I also didn't really understand some of it. First it'll be describing one aspect of Macy's Life, and then it'll jump straight back to her job at the library. Although I enjoyed this Novel, I thought it could have been more explanatory.
Sarah Dessen has written many other books. This Lullaby, Dreamland, Keeping The Moon, Someone Like You, That Summer, and her New York Times Bestseller, Just Listen. I have read a couple of these too, and I think that The Truth About Forever is a lot like all of Sarah Dessen's other stories, maybe even a little bit repetitive. All of her stories star a teen-aged girl who is mixed up with family trouble, as well as boy-trouble. I think that these are interesting things to learn about, but next time I would remind Sarah Dessen to explore another topic, or a different genre, because all of her books so far seem to be realistic-fiction.
I didn't know what to think of reading this book, because I thought that what it came down to was that you win some, you lose some, but in the end, no one's perfect.
