For The Love of a Dog

This one is a MUST READ for dog trainers. McConnell's information is priceless and her appreciation for the relationship that can be shared between humans and canines is stellar!
This is a fantastic book for anyone who loves dogs!

Great book

This book was insightful, entertaining and informative. It provided me with a new outlook on my 7 month old Australian Shepherd puppy. Recommended for all dog-lovers!

Another great book by Patricia B. McConnell

This is one of the most educative books I've ever read. It combines a lot of scientific data with McConnell's personal narratives. Throughout the book we acquire a deeper understanding of the how the brain functions, and McConnell helps us utilize this knowledge to train our dogs. The chapters dedicated to the scientific explanation of the brain's works are a bit more complicated and demanding, but you will not regret having read them.
At this point I should also add that it took me a bit longer than normal to finish this book, because I was in tears every few pages, particularly when reading the chapter about grief. I can't explain why, but it seems McConnell has a way of touching me in a deeper level than other writers are able to.
All in all, very good book. Highly recommended.

How to Read Your Dogs Emotions

If you pick up this book and just look at the pictures in the photo section, you'll get a good idea of what this book is all about. It is a collection of photographs of dogs and people that show remarkable resemblance to the expressive faces of humans.

To anyone who knows that their dog talks to them, who longs to understand what the dog is trying to tell them, and who in turn would like to train their dog for better behavior this is the book. Dr. McConnell is a adjunct associate professor of Zoology and certified Applied Animal Behaviorist. She has worked in the world of dogs for many years and writes of her experiences. Here are tales of dog owners; here are the results of a great deal of research, especially reporting on a wealth of research done in the last ten years or so; here is some informed supposition based on her experiences and those of others around her.

It is, as the title says, a guide to understnading emotion between man and his best friend.

Hey baby, how do you feel?

This book is outstanding. I've been reading a lot about dog behavior lately and I am thrilled to have acquired this particular book. Dogs are fabulous because they aren't human. If it's a choice between a dog or a human, the dog wins hands down. I can tell when my dogs are happy or sad or irritated or disgusted. Their expressions are very similar to my own. But this book is teaching me so much more and alerting me to behavior which could become distructive if not addressed and to "let it be" if my dog doesn't want to do something I want her to do. Each and every one of my dogs have a distinctly, different personality from the other but they all get along famously. Humans can't learn that, not all the treats in the world can make them......

There is honor and grace between these pages. I feel so much gratitude to Patricia for putting this work out in mainstream society. It's a book that needs to be cherished, memorized and of course, drooled on....
My dogs and I are all better souls for having read it.....
Buy it for yourself, but read it for your dog....
