This book is sooo cool !
Well, I am an expert. On
Photoshop
. I know it since it exists. I teach a non-destructive work approach. I use layers all the time. I know about channels. I preach adjustment layers and layer masks. But this guy made me faint more than once. This trick on page 223 -finding the neutrals in photos
that
don't really have them - no,no,no,NO ! It can't be that easy ! Scott, one more of these, and I'm gonna marry you ! (Oops, er...) I really love all those black&white techniques (ok, I knew most of them); they are explained very well just like everything else in the
book
, and b&w is my first love in photography and ever will be. A great book for, well, maybe not complete beginners, and people like me. Yes, I learned some new stuff. And, in some cases, a different approach, and that's great ! Everything in this book WORKS, and the results are great. There's only one thing (sorry, Scott), in my workshops there's alway an imaginary poster on the wall saying "NEVER touch your background layer". But that's just me.
Great work !

Somewhat Useful
Some useful information, but a bit fluffy and repetitious. As many others have noted, the attempt at humor is off-putting. Also, you have to get past the vomit-making section on page v of the Acknowledgments where Kelby thanks Jesus for personally introducing him to his beautiful wife. Seriously.
Excellent Self-Study Guide
I wanted a
Photoshop
CS3
book
that
would give me the steps to remove blemishes from faces in photographs. This book gives you that and much more. For example, it includes the steps to get rid of a double-chin and many other facial problems in
digital
photos. Also the book uses large color photos to show the before and after effects of the changes you make so you can clearly see what the photos are supposed to look like after you go through the steps. I recommend it.

Amazing book
I learned a lot stuff from the
book
. The book is to people who work with the
Photoshop
already. You have to know about tools, options you have available in the toolbar. The best part for me is the 'retouching charter'.
Very nice an powerful book high recommended.
Get it
I upgraded to
CS3
and bought this
book
, having had the CS2 version of this same book. Both are very much worth it. I'm finding
that
some of it is new, and some of it the same - only how to do it in CS3.
I wish I had kept the CS2 version of this same book, however. There were some techniques that were there that are not in the new one, and now I can't reference them.
If you get CS3, you definitely want this book. Just hold on to the CS2 book version in case you need to get back to it.
