Better than 9/10th of all history books

The 2 Cartoon history of the Universe Volumes are the bestfunniest waysto learn history. I take part in some academic cometitions for my school, and I swear that all the ancient history questions come from these 2 books. This is really a 10 in terms of quality.

The easiest, most humorous ways to learn History!

I finally got up the nerve to pay up for this book, and I have to say one thing. It was worth it. I found myself laughing over and over again at the little in-jokes, and intrigued by some of the origins of our species, as well as the great events that have occured since the beginnings of civilization. This book covers it all! The big bang, the first single-celled organisms, evolution of life out of the sea, and eventually into the form of the homo sapien. After this, the author, in his time machine, slowly unfurls every corner of the world civilization by civilization. A classic in my book

If any book will change a young mind's opinion on learning history, it's this one. I have never seen a more entertaining reference book and, save a third addition to this series, I probably never will. His combination of wit, fundamental education, and an ability to convey complex historical concepts concisely and accurately make him one of the best creative minds of this literary genre. This work is superb for all ages, but probably most impacting on a high school level. An excellent book!

Brilliantly funny, irreverant, and enlightening

This is the best way to learn ancient history in existance. As both an avid reader and history buff, this book's charm and humor kept me (and all of the people I recomended it to) interested in what can easily be a boring recounting of dates and hard to pronounce names. As you travel from century to century learning every thing from the impact of the Pelopenesian War to the fact that Alexander the Great was gay you will be amused as our history is retold in a memorable, easy to understand format. This book can explain why animals evolved into sexual creatures and humorously recount how Darius attained the Persian throne by nearly giving his horse a hernia... all within the course of a few hours' reading. Even those well versed in the period will be kept interested by Gonick's subtlely placed inside jokes. Oh, and the sequel is just as good... if not better.
