KOSS Headphone review
These
headphones
are above average in performance. However
do not be fooled by the many reviews seen. They do NOT
sound superb as is being reported by other reviewers.
I am a sound conosseuir, and these do make me wanna jump
for joy.
Comfortable, very good sound, great value
They didn't sound that good when I first tried them, but the next time they sounded better. I don't like sticking earbuds into my ears, and I wanted something light, and these work fine. The
volume
control
is a plus.
Massive bang for the buck!
I discovered these
headphones
years ago under the name Optimus Pro 35A from Radio Shack. The Optimus name was eventually dropped and replaced with the company name. In 2006, or therabouts, the actual company who manufactured the headphones (
Koss
) slapped their name on the phones, changed the model number, replaced the grey band with the light blue band and replaced the spongy radio Shack earpads with a thinner, yet denser pad...if that makes any sense. This makes the KTXs just slightly less comfortable. The performance, however, has not changed at all. You just can't get a better bang for your hard-earned buck. I play synthesizers, so I need a headphone that can handle the extra wide frequency range they produce and the
Titanium
drivers do an absolutely outstanding job. I have a pair of $240 Sennheiser HD595s sitting around collecting dust. That's how much I love my KTXPROs!

Worth More Than You Pay For Them
You can get these
headphones
for as little as 13.00 from some of the amazon partners. Even at $19, these are easily comparable to high end headphones costing 5 times as much. You hear everything, all the highs and quite a bit of the lows.
Buy them. You will not be sorry.
Great sound for the price...
I bought the
Koss
KTXPRO1
after reading the reviews on Amazon. I have to say the reviews are pretty much spot-on. These phones do sound excellent for the price, and they don't hurt or overheat my ears.
The headband adjustment hasn't been a major problem, but the way it's designed, the size adjustment doesn't lock into place very securely.
I agree the overall look of the headset is cheesy and dated, especially with the rubber flap thing.
I also have a pair of Sennheiser PX 100
headphones
. The sound is very similar between the two, but the bass is a bit richer/deeper on the PX 100. The styling and headband design on the PX 100 blows away the KTX design, but you'll pay for that difference.
Bottom line: If you want an inexpensive pair of phones that sound great, the KTXPRO1 will do the job quite well. What you'll lose in the bargain is styling and a well designed headband.
