Ey Mates, The Rum Is Gone (4.5 stars)
Yes, the
Pirates
trilogy comes to an
end
in the last installment. We have the finishing of several storylines, conclusions to certain characters, and a new story that may or may not come about (we'll ahve to wait for the next movie).
The movie is in two acts, with the first being the saving of Capt. Sparrow from Davey Jones' Locker (sort of a purgatory for pirates and people of the sea). Then, shifting to act two, in which the remaining pirates across the globe fight for the sea in a epic battle.
With that said, one could only imagine how much goes on in this film. As a fan of the movies, I have to say that a little too muhc is going one. So much in fact, we lose the richness and depth of the characters we've grown to love, and are forced to learn and care about new characters who die just as soon as they are introduced. Again, as a fan, I feel that the writers and director opted to put all the ideas they'd had brewing from jump into this movie. It sort of pans out well, but again, you lose some of the value in the story and character development.
The major flaw of this movie lies in the execution, the tieing up of storyline. In the first act, things are running smoothly, and you allow yourself to be taken in by the introduction of the Brethern Court, adn the task to sev Capt. Sparrow. However, in the second act, one gets lost in the Calypso myth, the gathering of the Brethern Court, Will and Elizabeth's love, the East India Trading Co.'s tyranny, etc. Get my drift. You just get bogged down to the point where you are trying to keep up with everyone and everyone's motives and stories. To the point of exhaustion.
The positive thing about the movie is the action. Not as non-stop as parts 1 and 2, but still there all the same. The epic battle in the end, the swashbuckling throughout--all are fun and worthwhile. One sees just how much money this project wsa given, and they seems to know how to use it.
While I love the movie, and rejoining the main characters in their quest. I must say that the busyness of the movie sort of keeeps the audience disconnected. Still, worth 4.5 stars jsut ebcuase I understand that this is the thrid movie, and if you know anything about trilogies--the thrid one has the most weight, and the most to do in terms of conclusion and tying things up.

disappointed
I LOVE the
Pirates
movies, but I was a little disappointed in the last movie...I still LOVE the cast and I would NOT have been so disappointed if there were not so many unnecessary deaths. If you've seen the movie, you know what I am talking about. Just really sad, anyway, there's my two cents.
Difficult to follow.
Great cinematography but a little childish. The first movie was the best. The second one was good, but not great. This third one is mediocre, and some scenes just got on my nerves, especially all the little doubles of Captain Jack Sparrow. It was just overdone.
I loved Sparrow in the first movie. In this third movie, it seemed like he had no role to play. He was just there. The writers should have given him more of a role and more dialogue.
The whole movie was overdone with special effects, and this made it very unbelievable. The story is also very difficult to follow. The characters are not well developed, and some scenes are rushed.
I think the producers got so overwhelmed with the special effects that they forgot to make this movie into a believable and easy to follow storyline.
