Great if you have compatible programs...
This is a sweet little PDA. The only thing wrong with my Palm Tx, which had ALL my contact info as well as a downloaded book and other things in it, was that Palm decided not to enable syncing with Windows Media Center Edition PCs so when I upgraded my laptop to a new one, I lost the ability to sync, and it's a pain to have to enter all info manually on the PDA. So I decided to try the
iPAQ
, only for the syncing ability.
Well, it turns out that it doesn't work with the version of Outlook (2000) that I have in both of my XP (Media and Home editions) systems! And without that tie-in with Outlook, I am back to manually entering info--so I might as well stay with the Palm (which I think has a far more intuitive OS). However, if you have the proper version of Outlook and use it, this is fine in that regard. Bright screen, good colors, it found our home wireless network immediately.
One other note: My Palm holds a battery charge for a very long time. I fully charged the battery on the iPAQ and within an hour it was in the 60% area. This was alarming (the manual suggests keeping it plugged in with the charger at all times you are not using it....doesn't that defeat the purpose of a
handheld
?) but perhaps it was because it was on the battery's first charge.

Thumbs Up! Well Done!- GOODBYE PALM FOREVER
I am a heavy PDA user ever since DAYTIMER stoped producing their software version which was downloadable into the familiar appointment book format.
After 3 very bad experiences with PALM, the last two being TX models that both had screens fail on me within 12 months and the extremely poor repair service provided by Palm. (Both times they lost my repair and it took months to replace them..It also took over a month before I could find someone in the USA to speak to.)
The
iPAQ
111
, while maybe not the top of the line wioth all the bells, does everything I could ask for and does it extremely well. The only thing I wish I could find is a DESK CHARGER....Thanks HP for a fine job!

Promising device, but a few problems
WHile the array of capabilites are good, (picks up wifi hotspots quickly, has a good contact manager, and notepad, their are a few things that limit its usefulness.
First is that there is no way to encrypt personal information like bank account numbers, passwords etc. Yet it links to the internet via the WiFi. We all know the security issues with the internet, so that means you can't put sensitive info on the unit. (the main reason I bought it by the way) .
The other problem is that it runs out of RAM very quickly. I took some notes and used the voice recorder to embed some recorded sound files from a meeting, and after only a few short sound files were added, the unit runs out of memory, closes the file and will not even reopen it. Lost my notes!! It will not let you convert any of the other on-board or the SD card memory to RAM for the operating system (at least that I can determine).
Also, there is no flash player on the unit, and the pocket versions of word, excel and powerpoint are severely limited in what they can do. Only have about 4 menu toolbar items. Pretty dissappointing since with just a few tweaks this would really be a good device.

Great Windows Mobile Device
This is a great choice for anyone who is in the market for a Pocket PC. But be aware: Windows Mobile requires Microsoft Outlook to sync contacts and calendar. If you have Office 2007: Home and Student edition, you WILL NOT be able to sync your PIM. (However, there are alternatives, such as syncing via Wi-Fi with Google and Windows Live.)
