Outstanding book on Seidr
Yngona Desmond has really brought together the best of her abilities as Shaman, with scholarship and a true desire to present the practice of Seidr in context of Lore. Her clear interweaving of personal observation and well documented scholarly references makes this book invaluable. I wish I had had it from the beginning of my personal study. This book is so wonderful I have bought 4 copies and gifted 3!
Well done, Yngona Desmond!
Seidr Study with Serious Substance and Style
This is a must have book for anyone studying Nordic shamanistic practices. Desmond is not only an astute scholar; she understands the practice from an experiential point of view. Practical and no-nonsense with a solid translation of the original text, her commentary has something to offer both the adept and the beginning seidu. Like any great work of scholarly spiritual study, those who are initiated can find themselves at home here while the uninitiated get something to sink their teeth into. This book has both substance and flair and was a joy to read. I am eagerly looking forward to Desmond's next work.

Unique Insight
This book is one of a new wave of Northern Esoteric works now becoming available that have gone beyond the quaint 19th Century romanticism, Third Reich occultism, New-Age fantasy, and "post-modernist" drivel that has infected much of the Northern revival of the late 20th Century.
Based on her academic study of Old Norse and the historical sources, Yngona has translated the
Voluspa
with care, accuracy, and insight. She has then applied her extensive practical experience of shamanism to gain deeper insights into this "Prophesy of the Seeress".
Unlike many esoteric works, she does not make unsubstantiated claims about the historical record, but takes a good look at the facts and offers her interpretations honestly. Of course the process requires a reasonable amount of speculation, but she never seems to be pushing a political or philosophical agenda, as is so common in Northern Esoteric books of the 1980s & 90s.
For anyone interested in a Northern esoteric path, this book is essential reading.
