Great, fun phone!
I know I haven't used nearly every feature this
phone
has, but the texting is super easy.. the main reason I bought the phone. The only complaints I can come up with so far is that its a chore to find and change the ringtones and the GPS function doesn't seem to work. Hopefully if I call customer service, they can help. Otherwise, this is a great phone!!
BlackBerry Curve
I've had my
Curve
for about 4months now and I don't have too many bad things to say about it. Maybe a few but not too much. Couple of the biggest problems I have is that the Curve doesn't auto time zone adjust. When I'm in a different time zone I have to manually change the time zone. It gets annoying after a while. Also YIM doesn't work on it. I enjoy the
qwerty
keyboard and love all the other functions. The speaker is a little on the weak side. When I have a call sometimes it gets distorted. I do wish that the screen would light up letting me know if I have a new email or a new text message. The red light is helpful but you would have to look out for it. From all the
phone
s that I've had I think this is one of the best. I usually go through phones every 6months or whenever something really new comes out. If RIM fixed all those little things I would give it a 4 star. Also if they can have all the texts tabbed rather than it being seperated for each person.

Great all around product
After a nightmareish experience with the Blackjack, I exchanged it for the new
Blackberry
Curve
8310 in red. Within minutes it was working flawlessly sending my emails in real time. The keyboard is a snap to get used to and the trackball is also easy to adjust to. I am amazed how happy I am with this devise after a month of problems with Blackjack.
The size and feel of the
phone
is great and it will take me some time to learn all the neat features. One plus is the extended battery life. I don't use it to play music or even surf the web. This should be wonderful when I am away from home to be able to see my emails, reply or call. I do dog rescue and a couple of days away is life or death for some of them. This Curve was exactly what I needed and MORE. Love it.

Powerful, versatile smartphone....
I have recently switched from Verizon since the reception in my home office was sporadic at best. Calls cutting out, dropped calls, just not something you want with business, so I also switched carriers to ATT. I researched many smart
phone
s and finally decided on the
Blackberry
8310 w/ GPS. I am very happy with this choice! The reception with this phone is superb, no more problems in my home office and the connection is clear. The keyboard is small and a little difficult to navigate although when I use the corner of my nail/finger, I can zoom across the keyboard with minimal difficulty. This is one of the complaints that I kept reading about during my research.
The applications with the Blackberry also serve my business needs since I also used to carry my Dell x50v along with my cell phone. No more, the 8310 does what my PDA did. The 3rd party software that can be added are abundant, although I have found a couple of issues. There isn't a viewer for .pdf files if you would like to view them while surfing the web. With the application BeamBerry, you can view .pdf's if they are attached to email but not on the fly while surfing. Another software issue is with the 3rd party application MobiReader that has issues accessing your memory card without first disabling the built-in firewall. Something I choose not to do when surfing the web.
All-in-all, this is a great choice if looking to upgrade to a smartphone. I am very happy with the 8310 and highly recommend it to anyone who asks. Aside from the few 3rd party issues noted at the time of this writing, There are many applications that will do whatever you would like your smartphone to do. Now I understand the term Crackberry.... it's addictingly fun to use!!!

Reflections from a Non-Business User
When looking to purchase a new cell
phone
, I researched very thoroughly. I wasn't even looking for a "smartphone." I just wanted a good cell phone. Without question, the BB
8300
was THE one to stand out on all accounts- not just on critical reviews or user reviews from one website, but it had an excellent score from every site I visited. Let me tell you, this phone combines the work of five electronic devices in one (phone, Internet browser, PDA,
camera
, and mp3 player).
First and foremost, as a cell phone the 8300 is awesome. This was MOST important to me as I wanted a good phone way before anything else. Clear sound, no dropped calls, excellent speakerphone, a nice voice dial option that you can implement easily, and 26 speed dial keys for one-touch calling are included. In this department, this phone is as good as any I've had (Nokias and Motorolas).
As an organizer, the 8300 exceeds my expectations. I can set appointments quickly, make a note for groceries, or set the alarm without any problems. On the calendar, I can view day, month, or agenda. Although not as good of a calendar userface as my Palm Tungsten's was, it does what I need.
The Internet works fine too. I don't have a "data plan," just a standard 600-minutes-per-month plan. But I do periodically use AT&T's MEdia Net for four things: sports scores, movie times, weather, and a map just in case I REALLY need to find an address (no need for GPS in my world yet). The speed is adequate for these needs without adding much cost per month (a few of bucks or so). As far as full Internet capabilities, it's best to get a data plan and go from there.
As a camera, the 2 megapixel BB takes nice photos. It is easy to focus and review with the large 2.5" screen, and you can zoom to 3x and 5x. The one drawback: although clear, the pics do come out a little on the dull/gray side, just like other reviews have stated. But nonetheless, they do come out clear and not blurry. So, if you really like the pic, you can enhance its color with a software program. On the bright side, the flash works tremendously. I was shocked by this feature.
The Mp3 player works fine too. It will display song, group, playlist, etc. I put in a 2gb mini-sd card (kind of difficult to install beneath the battery) and I can play hundreds of songs. One BIG bonus- it has a standard, non-proprietary earphone jack. But if you want to listen to songs without headphones, you can do that too. The volume is actually surprisingly loud for such a small device, but the quality is pretty average (think AM radio-ish).
As for form and function, the BB 8300 is slim and well-shaped. I don't notice it in my pocket; it's that light! It can scratch easily; my advice-get a silicone skin for it and you won't compromise its size while protecting your investment. The keypad does take a little getting used to compared to the standard cell, but with the trackball and adequate space between keys even a novice will pick this up in a day or so. The screen is flat-out beautiful, and I can see it even in the bright of day. And the desktop is easily customizable too. As for the battery life, it is pretty good but not great; it lasts me about three days between charges. The reviewers who have to charge theirs daily must use the BB a heck of a lot. On this note, I do like the "status" feature that displays a percentage of battery charge remaining so you don't have to guess how much juice is left. And if you really want to save energy, just push the "standby" button on top of the BB, and you won't have any accidental phone calls or camera snaps. Plus, you can turn the device on/off at a set time to save juice.
Well, I stopped carrying my mp3 player, PDA, and even my camera for the most part. With the 8300 I just don't need those now. As far as all that "business" stuff it does, I could care less. If you need the 3G speed, the GPS and the Windows Mobile system, don't buy this one. But if you'd like to get a solid phone that will help you get organized, and still have all the fun stuff in a device that is light, slim, and stylish, then this IS the one. Take note, pull the trigger, and buy it if you want a very good all-around device. Or go ahead and look at more reviews... and you'll come up with the same conclusion that I had.
