Some problems with format but otherwise exceptional

Ok I have to admit I have been conflicted about this work. On the one hand, there are problems with format- there are no chapters, sections with endnotes ended and the next section began with no notice, etc. In short, the sorts of things that make a work easy to read and put down are often not there. It also has sections where it is difficult to identify the sections being talked about easily, or the way it is being referred to. The reason I gave it 5 stars is that this is NOT the problem of the author but of the editor.

On the other hand, we have here a mixture of intuitive reflection by a scholar/practitioner. Make no mistake, this is scholarly writing and reveals a deapth of knowledge that is rarely seen in the modern religous movements of this sort. Additionally there are the insights of the practitioner. And even more WONDER OF WONDERS she KEEPS IT CLEAR WHICH WAY SHE IS VIEWING THE TEXT. There is none of the 'I had a vision and that means this" sloppy reasoning tht is often seen, but rather the sense that this is the work of a scholar who was driven to practice, or a practitioner driven to scholarship, to complete their understanding, but who is clearly working to make clear which part is received and which is provable or documented.

This is a wonderful text and should be read by any who attempt to combine their religous insights with scholarly views of the ancient texts.

Fresh Outlook on SeidhR...

This book made me think twice about some aspects of SeidhR I had thought of as "solid" in my view.

Yngona has some very good, fresh views about SeidhR that I have not seen or heard of before I read her book.

She has very good interpretations of The V?lusp?, and her commentary is thorough and well thought out; as well as beautifully written.

To anyone seeking more information on SeidhR, this book should be one that should be required reading...

This is money well spent; and clear commentary on information that is so hard to find!

An "all you can eat buffet" of knowledge

This book is a well-researched, richly-stocked "all you can eat buffet of knowledge", and presents topics in ways that are innovative and thought-provoking. Plus, the book is well written from a technical standpoint, with excellent use of spelling, grammar and punctuation. Yngona, after reading your book, I felt
enriched.

I just finished my second time through and WOW!!!!

This is by far the best book I have ever read on the subject of Northern European shamanistic practices. Yngona has truly bridged the gap between the book scholars and the practitioners. She is a breathe of fresh air in a world of re-hashed general shaman writings repackaged in the names of the pre-Christian Germanic peoples. She hits the nail on the head over and over again. This book is a must read for anyone interested in the pre-Christian tribal beliefs of the Germanic peoples. For anyone interested in the magic/shamanistic practices of these people, this is a must read and re-read, study and know back and forth. It will cut 10 years out of your learning and understanding of the mind and worldview of Germanic people.
