Macintosh default key assignments problematic
I recently got one of these
keyboard
s at work for use with a Windows PC. I like it and bought one for personal use at home with my Macintosh. It was an unpleasant surprise to find its default Macintosh key layout switches the standard positions for the Command (ALT) and Option (Start) keys. Trying to fix this using the
Microsoft
Keyboard System Preference didn't work on my Macintosh (Mac OS 10.4.9). I was considering returning the keyboard, but found a utility on the web (http://doublecommand.sourceforge.net), that successfully switched these key assignments.

Great Keyboard
I've bought a bunch of these for our office staff (I'm the IT manager). All of the office staff love using this
keyboard
and if I were to ever replace these keyboards, I'd have a bunch of unhappy users. The bottom of the keyboard raises up so that your wrists and fingers are forced into the correct

nomic position. An added feature of the keyboard is that you can program up to 5 speed buttons to launch your favorite application with one tap of the keyboard. There are also pre-programmed speed buttons to launch email, internet, and increase/decrease volume. Love this keyboard for all its functionality, but especially for helping to prevent job-related injury.

ok, but not great for mac
i'm a full time software programmer and spend many, many hours on the
keyboard
. i kinda liked how the ms
natural
keyboard has a soft tactile feel, but the travel seemed to far for me. all highly subjective, i know. i liked that MS actually had configuration software for the mac, but wasn't 100%. i never got the zoom key to do anything. really, i found most of the hot keys MS decided to put on the keyboard not very usefull: mail, search, home, calculator and then 5 custom keys. it has media keys that do work with the mac; but it's missing a very important "next track" and somewhat less important "prev track". I used this keyboard for about a month before I finally just bought the thin apple pro keyboard. the keys on the apple keyboard are very nice: short action, soft touch, tactile feedback. of course, the predefined hotkeys on the apple keyboard suit my mac better: expose, dashboard, and a full set of itunes controls. If you're debating between this keyboard and apple's and you're on a mac; the apple keyboard really is better to type with and not just better looking and better functioning.

I really love it.
My prior
keyboard
was also a
Microsoft
ergo
nomic, but the old style. After two weeks of using this one I'm finding I never lost any speed although I had to adjust to a few of the key spacings, which took about two days. All in all this keyboard is a great buy for the money and the wrist support is all I could ask for.
