Great system
Like the other reviews I've seen, I have only good things to say about the
Sonos
ZP100
Bundle
I purchased. The hardware is solidly constructed and the setup process is pretty much intuitive (and Sonos has a decent FAQ available online for any snags encountered during setup). In less than an hour I used several powerline ethernet adaptors to route a
music
network throughout my home. When I got it running the
system
did everything I'd hoped for and more.
What's more, I had a pair of in-wall speakers in my master bedroom that had sat dormant for years because they had not been properly wired to my living room's home entertainment system (an error by my home construction contractor). With my Sonos system those speakers are now fully operational via remote control and they now have a wide variety of music available from my PC's hard drive and top quality streaming Internet radio sources.

It actually works
After fiddling with the idea of a wired
music
system
, and then abandoning it, followed by a short-lived experiment with the Roku Soundbridge, my client and I decided to go for the
Sonos
ZP system. It works perfectly. Sound reproduction at the wired player, as well as the wireless player downstairs is actually better than the sound through an iPod, thanks to the built in amplifier. The Roku Soundbridge, in comparison, actually sounds worse than the connected iPod, even when it is wired directly through Ethernet. Set up of the zone player system is easy, and smooth. As I mentioned in my review of the ZP80
bundle
, the remote is a bit large and awkwards, with a poor click wheel, but the interface is very intuitive and powerful. I also like that the Zoneplayer software indexes the files themselves, rather than basing its playlist by sharing from iTunes or Windows Media Player. Occasionally, I have found that the remote freezes, which is annoying for such an expensive piece of equipment, but by randomly pressing many keys at once (or just waiting), the problem goes away.
Final verdict:
ZP100
- 5 stars, Remote - 2 stars. I've given the bundle 5 stars, and will review the remote individually. Highly recommended system.

Beyond Outstanding
I bought my
Sonos
bundle
from a local high end electronics dealer after doing a lot of online research. As a
music
lover, I was dying to "go
digital
" with my music and make my collection fully accessible without having CD's all over the place... no ugly rack. No carrying CD's from room to room etc.
I actually was looking at Escient which is very expensive but had an on screen interface that intrigued me. I thought I could invest in an external harddrive and "serve" the music with escient.
After speaking with the retail salesman, and looking at Escient (which this retailer carried) and Sonos... Sonos gained traction with me. Cheaper. Not proprietary... so it was flexible. Almost all of the salesmen in the store had a Sonos
system
. After a full demo... it was a no brainer.
I bought it, brought it home and enthusiastically set it up. I'm knowledgeable about electronics and computers but not a whiz... and the setup was a snap... this is the system's capabilities in a nutshell.
1.) ALL music saved to your harddrive can be played from any room that has a Sonos box connected to speakers. With album cover art, any song, immediately playing... change your mind... select a new song... immediately playing. No wait... no delay. Bach to Metallica in a blink. Have 1000 CDs? Goto [...]
2.) Sonos is connected with Rhapsody. Comes with a 30 day trial. What is this? A second rate Itunes? Far from it... Rhapsody will stream millions... yes millions of songs to your sonos systems immediately. Sorted by genre, artist name, current charts, however you want to look at it... you can play it. Heard KT Tunstall on the radio or read about the new John Mayer album in a magazine. Fire the whole album up on your Sonos.
3.) Playlists. Want to create a jammin party playlist and play it in your entire house for a party - done. Want to listen to Miles Davis and work in the den while your kids listen to Kid Rock in the family room - done. Want to find Guy Lombardo, Nat King Cole, and Alvin and the Chipmunks for a great Christmas playlist at holiday time? - Done... even if you don't own Guy Lombardo... it's on Rhapsody. Don't think twice about it.
4.) Neat, clean and organized. No CD cases, no CD racks. No scratches, taking them out, none of it. Hide the box. Play the music. Neat, clean, organized.
5.) Sound quality. I played Coldplay from my own collection on my surround sound in the family room. Sounded better than I had ever heard it. I played KT Tunstall for my wife after seeing her on the New Years eve show last night... sounded better than the Coldplay. The sound quality is fantastic.
6.) One last thing. Internet Radio. Every internet radio station that can be listened to, can be listened to by Sonos. It comes, loaded with many stations. If there's one you like that isn't loaded... load it. I like to listen to Indiana University Basketball but live in Boston. I loaded an internet radio station from Indiana... and Sonos will stream the radio station just like music... to any room with a box. ESPN radio, German radio... already loaded. It's fantastic.
Yeah... it ain't cheap. Yeah... there are other options... but seriously folks... I cannot imagine a better home music solution than Sonos.
Buy it. Buy it now!
P.S. I do not work for Sonos... :)

Better than a Stereo
The
Sonos
ZP100
bundle
(two ZP100s and one Controller) is a wonderful replacement for my old component stereo
system
(which was stolen last summer). I have one ZP100 hooked up to pair of Polk bookshelf speakers in the living room. The second ZP100 powers a pair of Acoustic Research wireless speakers that live variously in the kitchen, dining room and back deck. I'm not a hard-core audiophile, but the sound quality of the Sonos-Polk combination is more than good enough for me.
Of course, the real test of Sonos system is its management of my
digital
music
library (currently confined to the 400+ CDs that I own and have ripped). While not quite as intuitive or easy to use as the iPod/iTunes interface, the Sonos Controller and Sonos Desktop Controller are pretty darn good, allowing me to quickly peruse my collection by artist, album, genre, etc. The graphics on the Controller are sharp, battery life is sufficient (it will last a whole weekend of near non-stop action) and the Controller's size, shape and ergonomics are all excellent.
If you don't have a stereo system (or want to get rid of the one you have), I'd definitely recommend the Sonos ZP100 bundle.
