Good concept and features, mediocre execution

I tried this phone for about 2 weeks, the time limit that my carrier gave me to return it. I liked the features, but took issue with many little problems that popped up. I've chatted with a few people that really like the phone, so you may not take as much issue with my "cons" as I did.

PROS
+ Nice large visual interface w/ side alphanumeric keypad that is easy to use/has friendly tactility
+ Cool apps for Android... everything from barcode scanners to pregnancy calculators to streaming news media
+ Relatively intuitive interface
+ Construction that feels like good quality
+ Feature-rich: GPS, email, Facebook, browsing, camera
+ Motoblur sounds cool in concept... can wipe phone remotely, save contacts if you lose the phone, locate phone via GPS remotely (which would have been great when I lost my last phone on top of a mountain :=)...
+ Full-sized audio output

CONS
- The touchscreen "buttons" are small and I (who do not have overly large fingers) did not enjoy the poor response
- The OS and programs are often sluggish.
- The audio quality is mediocre at best. Voicemail appears to download as audio files which are _very poor_ quality. Also, I noticed a constant "clicking" in the background while talking/listening.
- When I buy a phone, it should work well as a phone. It shouldn't be a task to make a call... there are no send/stop buttons. Making a call really requires more steps and small touchscreen buttons than necessary. Also, the number of bars indicating reception was on average _lower_ on this phone than my 5-year-old Motorola flip phone!
- It's bulky and heavy, especially with any additional protective cover.
- As of March 2010, the operating system is 1.5... why??! The application for which I primarily bought the phone (Epocrates)--as well as many other apps--require 1.6!! Supposedly they're supposed to upgrade to 2.1 soon, but I'm not willing to hold my breath.
- If you have the "Dec 1969" date problem--as I did--where the phone, after an upgrade to the OS, locks up and requires a "reboot" and will not log in to Motoblur because of a "clock problem"... there IS a solution. Search on the web; there is a zip file that can be downloaded an installed on the phone that will fix this.
- Cannot delete pre-installed applications. Really?! this is a basic feature that the phone lacks. Makes navigating apps a chore.
- No good file manager
- This can probably be adjusted in settings, but the little LED in the corner that alerts me to new texts/missed calls also blinks if _anything_ happens... e.g., new mail, new Facebook message, wireless available, etc., etc. so it is CONSTANTLY blinking.
- No camera flash
- Chews through the battery life quickly... not unexpected with so many features and a bright screen!

Overall for me, I need a phone that is phone... that will easily make/receive calls and text-message. This didn't do it for me and ended up being cumbersome and a huge distraction.

AMAZING PHONE

I've bought this phone after being a sidekick LX user for two years. This phone is so reliable and durable. There's a ton of free apps from android. Actually all the apps on my phone are free. You can make your own ringtones for free with the RingDroid app (free) and everything. Android really lets you customize your phone. This in my opinion is the best android phone with t-mobile. Online it looks like a teenager's phone, but in person it's really sleek and sexy. This is by far my favortie phone, it does everything I need it to do and more. Great with emails, IMs, and social networking as well. It takes gorgeous pictures with the 5mp camera, and the video recording is good enough to upload straight to youtube which you can do with the youtube app that comes pre-installed. Great phone I highly recommend this for everyone.
