a new testament
I heard this was the first novel John Grisham wrote after he became a Christian (I could be mistaken). I was curious how his new faith might affect his writing.
From a Christian point of view, Grisham has demonstrated what it means to be a gifted writer instilling parts of his faith into literature without being trite, simplistic, obvious, boorish, or dull. This is in contrast to many Christian novelists who are religious first but are really second/third rate writers.
From a reader's point of view, virtually everything I enjoyed about Grisham was there. The courtroom, the characterizations, the plot. This is a Grisham legal thriller that ranks with his best.
Thoroughly recommended for fans of Grisham, legal thrillers, and especially for Christians who think that Left Behind is the pinnacle of Christian writing (they're wrong!)
