Excellent
I recently purchased the s-
301
to change from a much larger stereo
system
. I am happy I did, the
s-301
is excellent in quality and ease of use. It does not take up a lot of space, however delivers a big sound. Granted it does not deliver the sound of an equivalent 5 or 6 speaker system, however it is still excellent. I paid $1,299 rather than the $1,599 quoted above, it is easy to negotiate on the price.
I looked hard at the equivalent Bose 3.2.1 systems, however the technology seems a bit dated now in comparison to the
Denon
and I personally thought the Denon delivered better sound.
The MP3/iPod connection is great and very easy to use.
Recommended.

The "Cool Factor" Sold Me!
I was undecided between the Bose 3-2-1 GS and this
system
until I realized the
Denon
system had a USB port for playing MP3s or WMAs from ANY mass storage device. Whoa! The sound is great! Surround? You betcha! Watched "War of the Worlds" last week...and when the choppers flew over at the battle scene on the hill...I almost ducked! I only wish the price was comparable to the Bose system. If it were: Five Stars!
Top-Gun
I have had numerous surround sound
system
s. Recently bought a vacation
home
that's rather small. Not much room for a lot of speakers and/or wires. Set the system up tonight. I was blown AWAY by the quality! I am going to replace my system at my Primary home with this system ASAP. If you can't afford this system, steal the money from your Mother. She will forgive you when she sees the smile on your face.

ipod compatibility
I bought this new in January 2006 along with a new video ipod. Although the included cable worked fine, the advertised ipod/remote compatibility with this
Denon
ended there. In fairness to Denon; however, the Denon supplied remote would control the ipod using the compartmentalized buttons located on the back of the remote rather than the front buttons as outlined in the manual. This method of function is clumsy and fails to control the ipod correctly. The ipod photo and video playback functions neglected to work altogether. Again out of fairness, my older ipod mini works almost flawlessly-pretty much as advertized though there is a noticeable and irritating "hitch" when switching from one song to the next-like dropping the needle on an old LP. Thus far, I've sent two e-mails to Denon tech support outling my prblems/concerns but have not had a peep of a reply. If not for the ipod glitches, I consider this unit a reasonable buy- though I would be grateful to hear from the Denon folks if they could perhaps find the time to respond.
