great value for a buck, providing your ears are NOT audiophile-grade :)
You should understand that you are buying entry-level
speakers
, so if your ears are not audiophile-grade, those speakers produce very solid and deep sound.
They replaced my old small "beepers" (I was actually plugging them "live" while watching Ratatouille BluRay) and was experiencing the increase of the volume (volume, not the loudness!!!!) while I was plugging them in - the saxophone theme was getting the details, deepness and surround which I believe was very close to what director was trying to put in the audio track (yeah, I admit, audiophile may argue that I was not hearing the whole spectrum or whatever but the I'm a little bit eager to pay another grand or two to be few millimeters closer without being sure that I personally would be able to hear this extra)
I had a big problem with controlling the volume the old "beepers" - they either were "screaming" or sound was hard to hear... That has been solved nicely = these speakers do produce very nice and deep sound without the need to make a volume too loud.
The size of this speakers... Hmm I don't think you can easily find the
bookshelf
which will fit them :) - they are just ~3 inches shorter than my TV-stand (which btw has 2 shelfs) = they are actually almost "floorstands" by the size but lack bass reproduction which is usually expected from floorstands: these speakers start at 50Hz while floorstands usually start below 45Hz = this (lower start) is usually good indication how well speaker can reproduce more reasonable bass starting around 60-70Hz (which most people hear pretty well while ~40Hz is for better trained ears). so in the end result I believe that the system lacks the bass just a little bit, BUT I don't want excessive bass as low-frequency sound easily penetrates through the walls especially cardboard ones used in America :), so you may want to limit the disturbance to other family members who are in the other rooms, so this is almost right amount of bass for me.
p.s. I used to hate
Sony
with the passion, but you know, money talks :) for that price for great sound I can tolerate "Sony" label :)

great speakers
i really liked these, they are for my office - i got them cheaper than at best buy and the shipping was free!
Great sound!
These hybrids are hard to beat for the money. I call them hybrids because their design and size lie somewhere between
bookshelf
speaker and floor speaker; adequate for either use. I'm using them as the front
speakers
in a surround sound system. Nice highs, good mids.

Sony SS B300 speakers
Got a very good deal from Amazon on these
speakers
. they came very quickly so I am very pleased with the transaction.
As for the speakers, I would like a little fuller base but they are very transparent and give a very pleasant sound that way. I would make this deal again.

very good speakers, dirty cheap
awesome
speakers
for the price. They are smaller than I thought - which is actually good news - and they sound very good. But, really, for $80 a
pair
, your next upgrade will probably cost you over $500. I would stick with these, they do their job very very well.
