Excellent grill pan

The first time I used it was for hamburgers, which turned out great. Cleaning the skillet was a bit of a challenge, but not impossible. I followed instructions and scrubbed and it all came off. The second time we cooked salmon, and it turned out very well. What's more, the skillet was much easier to clean that time. It looked like it would be a challenge again, but surprisingly, all the little bits and chunks came off with the scrub brush. I think this will become one of our favorite pans, particularly in winter when we can't grill outside.

Awesome grill pan

Just the right size to use on normal stove-top burners, heats up quickly and evenly, and makes for great grilling. Cleans up easily and requires minimal care.

Makes a great steak

The first time I used this pan, it was a disaster. It was preseasoned but it smoked...a lot. I had to turn on the attic fan and open the doors! I was groaning a bit....thought I had messed up buying it.
I regrouped and re-seasoned it myself after that. Just clean it then coat it with oil and let it sit in a 350 oven for a while. That really helped. After that I did not have the smoking issues.
It makes a great steak. It's a heavy skillet that heats very evenly and sears grill marks perfectly. I routinely cook 1 flat iron steak cut into thirds in mine and it holds it all just fine.
I use this pan at least once a week. I love it.
Clean up is not bad if you just pour some hot water in it while it is still hot. The gunk will rise to the top. I take a finger and slide down each of the groves and it is clean. Gets my hands dirty but they clean up. :) Just never, ever, use soap on cast iron. IF you ever do, you can save it but it is a pain- I've found it best to burn it in a fire to get any rust or anything off, then season it again.

Difficult cleaning grill

This is not my first cast iron pan, but it is my first grill pan. I like cooking in it, but so far the clean up is difficult at best. I really like cast iron cooking. I am sure it still needs some breaking in time to mature.

Panini skillet

After viewing many grill pans I decided on the LODGE pan based on its reputation of quality, and durability.I use this pan primarily for paninis and grilling salmon patties. In both uses the pan performs admirably. Its heft can be lessened by using both handles simultaneously when necessary. It heats evenly and provides a source of iron, without the problem of teflon contamination from "non stick pans".The pan's generous size allows sufficient room to grill generous portions of food.A worthwhile investment!
