The Case Does Its Job
I was attracted to this
case
because it's a
Palm
product. I had research third-party cases, but figured "Palm made the PDA, why wouldn't they be able to make a spot-on suitable case for the PDA!?"
The case is very nice, very light. It's definitely not *perfect*. I've had mine for a little over a year now (I wanted to wait a while before I reviewed it). My
Tungsten
E2 is very well-protected in this puppy, BUT...
About 6-months ago, I must've dropped it or something(?) and the little tabby that holds the whole thing shut broke off. Not ideal, but not a huge problem-- the case generally stays shut on its own, and when it's in my pocket it's not going anywhere. So that was disappointing. I would've expected a more well-designed closure mechanism for this thing, as the one it has didn't seem all that "secure" to begin with. I don't know how to articulate it, but even new, it never really felt like it was REALLY shut (even though it was).
As mentioned in other reviews, the case is more for the E2's protection-- not so much for convenience. The power and HotSync ports are completely blocked when the case is opened or closed. To HotSync, you either have to take the PDA completely out of the case (if you're using a cradle), or rig-up some sort of jig to rest the whole mess in. I'm a pretty patient guy, so that wasn't a deal-breaker either. It could be better designed, for sure, though. Additionally, the stylus is also blocked, but I've learned to reflexively do a little "dip and flip" to get it out--- not a big deal.
Strangely, the only part of the E2 that's not blocked is the SD card slot. I'm sure Palm did that to accommodate the sold-separately WiFi card. I don't have one, so the neat little rubber flap is not much use to me. If I had multiple SD cards that I frequently swapped in and out, I'm sure it would be convenient-- but I just have one.
The exterior of the case stays relatively clean. The aluminum WILL show scuff marks after extensive use. Mine rubs on my money-clip in my pocket and so has a particular scuff mark right in the middle.
As far as size, it's not THAT big. Others have remarked about it being large. Yeah, it's larger than the E2--- it's not a "skin", it's a "case". But relatively, it's no larger than any other case out there, or virtually any other PDA. I previously had a Palm IIIx that I had gotten in college, and all told, the E2 in the case isn't really any bigger than the whole IIIx. (We're talking millimeters difference. It's negligible.)
Overall, I'm pleased. I can't give it 5-stars, because I'm not jumping up and down about it, and if the tab closure mechanism and port-blocking issues were better, the thing might've garned 4-stars from me.

Tungsten E2 hard case -- well worth the money.
I love my
Tungsten
E2
hard
case
. It looks and functions better than the leather case which came with my E2.
When I used to put my E2 leather case into my rolling case, the stylus would come out of its holder on the E2. Now that I have a hard case, I don't have to worry about this any more.
I also feel that the hard case offers my E2 more protection. If you have a Tungsten E or E2, get your hands on this hard case. You'll be glad you did.
