Still the best gaming mouse out there..
My previous
mouse
was a
logitech
bluetooth mouse, which I'd been using for several years. It finally started acting up and the
MX518
is identical except for the cord. Got to love the extra thumb buttons!
Great for gaming, but not JUST a gaming mouse. Works with Vista 64-bit!
I upgraded to this
mouse
a few months ago because I wanted a higher DPI mouse for both games, and normal use. I purchased this one after reading reviews here, and on a few other web pages. The reviews were right: this mouse is excellent.
Pros:
Fast, accurate and precise movement
The three settings for speed that can be changed on the fly. This feature is very useful when you need fast-twitch action one second, and more precision the next.
Smooth, almost frictionless. Glides over my mouse pad.
Easy software set up, although Vista doesn't need any drivers to run it. (I'm on Vista 64-bit, and this mouse works perfectly).
Cons:
I'm not a fan of the "claw and tooth mark" finish. Just a preference, and doesn't detract from its performance.
If you want a reasonably priced, fast, accurate and precise mouse for games and other applications, look to further.

I won this
mouse
at the 2006 E3 from a very cute
Logitech
rep, and I have to say it's the most amazing mouse I've ever owned.
Pros:
Design - I really love the left to right slope design in mice. I am so used to this design that if I use a regular/flat mouse I usually end up right clicking on everything. Mouse isn't tiny, good for my huge hands.
Tracking - You know how when you move some
optical
mice really fast the pointer may sometimes go the opposite direction. It's like when you see something spinning in low light, sometimes it looks like it's spinning in the opposite direction. A lot of older mice suffer from this. The
MX518
never has this problem. Like the more expensive Laser mice, this mouse never misses a beat. It's truly amazing. The mouse also works on every surface save a mirror, have tried several mouse pad designs in the past, each one works great.
Sensitivity - Switch your mouse DPS from 100dps to 1600dps with a button press (+ and - buttons above and below the mouse wheel). (3 pre-sets, that are adjustable, handy)
Price - $48 here, but I've seen lower, and it's worth every penny.
Cons:
Button Placement - Sometimes you tap the thumb buttons on accident or the sensitivity buttons. Easy to overcome.
Cord - it's long, would be nice if it came short with an extension for those of us who plug their mice into their keyboards.
Drivers - Bloated, and the Mouse and my G15 keyboard drivers are seperate. Really Logitech, you can't get the keyboard programs to integrate with the mouse programs? Ah well, at least the programs running fairly quietly. Until they need an update. Just update the program, don't tell me you're gonna do it.

Summary:
Great product. it's been around a LONG time, and with good reason, it really is an amazing mouse.
Too bad there's 240+ reviews on Amazon for it already. Ah well,
-Andy
