Great upgrade from an older DVD player

Just installed this unit to replace two older DVD players.
Connected to my HD TV with no problems. Since my HDTV is an older unit, had to use an HDMI-DVI cable for the connection.

Picture is much better than older player. I would say near HD level. Set up was easy. Unlike other reviewers, I found load times excellent for CDs, MP3s, and DVDs.

Once nice thing about the hook up is that you are able to connect the audio to the TV and the stereo receiver. Therefore, you can have sound coming from the receiver (5.1) and the TV at the same time if you wish, or one or the other.

Smooth but slow

I bought this unit to replace a similar Toshiba multi-disc DVD changer. It is much better than the other multi-disc changers I have owned, mainly because the disc loader and changer tray is a much sturdier mechanism. This was a big problem with my older Toshiba unit. The picture is very good, particularly if you use HDMI switching through a HDMI-switching enabled H/T Receiver.

I took away two stars because this unit has one fundamental shortcoming - it is slow to start up - the first time I fired it up, I actually thought there was a problem with the unit.

One other noteworthy point is that it is only 1080i compatible and doesn't work up to 1080p. Of course, most of us can't even tell the difference!

That aside, good unit - particularly at the amazing price!

almost there

I bought this DVD player a couple weeks ago and have been marginally satisfied with it's performance. It's since been rendered obsolete with my purchase of a PS3, but here are my thoughts:

Pros:
- sturdy construction
- plays well

Cons:
- slow to start up.
- none of the buttons are backlit, making use in the dark tough.
- numbering on the disc carousel is black on black so it's tough to tell what number a particular disc is.
- remote is ugly gray color (was hoping for black like other Sony products.)

All in all, I give the product 3 stars. Some finishing touches by Sony would have made this a much more user friendly player.

All the features you would every want

Pro: I now own 2 of these players and now with this second one hooked up to a HDTV movies look great! I love the resume play so I can turn a movie off and come back latter to finish where I left off with out searching.
Con: On the HDTV if I play CD's the audio pops. I am not sure where the problem lies but it only occurs if I use the HDMI output.
Other Thoughts: The other player is connected to a receiver and a stanard def TV and I use the digital audio out there and play CDs with no trouble.

Its a good player

My wife and I love this 5 disc changer. Its audio and video output quality is very good. I've had this DVD player for over a month. The only bad thing about this DVD player that I have noticed so far is that disc loading time is long. (I would say its about 7-10 secs)

Other than that... it plays most of the DVDs and VCDs. It looks pretty sleek for a 5 disc changer.
