Dan Eldon - An Aesthetic Visionary

This is a fabulous collection of Eldon's collage work and brief writings. It is like opening up his life and taking a peek he never would have expected. The images are breathtaking, and the arrangements inspiring. I love, love this exceptional book.

Artistic, personal and inspiring

When I ran into this book a few years ago, completely by chance, I had to have a copy of it. Even though Dan Eldon was only my age, he had done so much that it has inspired me to do things I had never done before. Even though I am an avid reader, I have never had a book influence me as much as this one. This is a must read if you have not done so yet.

YOU WANT THIS BOOK!

This truly is an incredible publication. Some reviews state disappointment at it not being the story of a fascintating life cut short. I disagree. This book is exactly that. Look into the private pages of an artist/ adventurer who was never anticipating their publication. This book is fascinating, inspiring and at the same time, tragic. What brilliant talent Dan had. And what a perfect way to preserve the memory and art of a short but full life. This book will directly effect all who read it.

My favorite book

I am a Public Library fan. Rarely do I ever buy a book, but this one was a must-have. One that I want as part of my permanent collection. Because it's not just a book, it really is a piece of art. His collages will blow you away and his work will inspire. His death was such a tragedy, but hopefully his message of tolerance will live on in his work.

testament to vision

I couldn't let the review preceeding this one be the first and last word. To put it simply, this book is an amazing representation of someone with artistic vision and moral integrity. It is not a hard-hitting book of photojournalism, nor does it present itself to be--rather, it is a staggering view into a talent that was cut short and is still far more insightful than most contemporary artists working today. Dan's fate evelates the book to the point of tragedy and forces the question: why did Somalia happen the way it did? But it would stand well on its own regardless. CNN has also produced a documentary made by his sister on the events that led to his death--should you be equally compelled (as I was) to find out more about what happened and why it was all allowed to happen in the first place.
