Partition software for dual-boot (WinXP & Vista)

Having purchased Vista, but wishing to keep Windows XP MCE, I purchased Acronis Disk Director Suite 10 in order to set up a dual boot system that would accommodate both operating systems. In addition to the Acronis product I also had a copy of Norton Partition Magic, and since I had two identical desktop PCs to configure in a dual-boot mode I intended to use Acronis on one and Norton on the other. After a few hours of Symantec software torture I abandoned the Norton product, and easily configured both PCs using the Acronis Disk Director. I have yet to figure out why Norton Partition Magic would not step through the dual boot configuration process, but Acronis Disk Director 10 sailed right through without a hitch. I have been using Norton products for years, and while Symantec makes quality software they also engineer their product line with a sufficient number of traps to drive even the most patient geek certifiably mad. You may ask why Disk Director did not get the 5-star rating; the answer is that Acronis has a few unnecessary traps of its own (but not quite enough to coax you into using the software as a frisbee) So, if I ever have the occasion to again set up a PC to accommodate two operating systems (dual-boot), and the software choices are between Acronis and Norton, I will not hesitate to purchase Disk Director; I highly recommend this software.

Only used one feature, but it was perfect.

All I wanted to do with this product was take advantage of some "hidden" disk space without having to reformat my hard disk, and reload from backup s l o w l y. It worked beautifully and perfectly. I admit I have not use d it for running multiple op-sys' so I have not used most of the features available on this product. But in the past, I have paid more for software that did much less, and not as perfectly.

I chose this product because Acronis True Image Backup v8 has saved my [...] so many times (this time included) and it is so easy to use. This event: my hard disk died [...] Friday; Dell sent a replacement (with more GB than the original) I installed on Monday and began recovering my images which took overnight. I was up and running Tuesday morning, and after reviewing several products, I chose Acronis Disk Director to unlock the new disk space Dell provided. Thanks to 2 Acronis products, the whole event could not have gone smoother.

Works Flawlessly

When I received the software I printed out the PDF manual and learned a great deal just be reading it over completely before trying to do anything. I bought Disk Director because I have used the Acronis True Image8 and True Image10 backup and imaging software and I have been very happy with them and found them to be reliable. Disk Director10 has lived up to my expectations, although I do not have any experience with other programs of this type to compare it to, I found it was extremely easy to partition the two drives on my system. I was pleased to learn that I could easily see exactly where each partition was located on my drive. I created a 21G partition as my C drive and use it for only my OS and my programs. All my data music and photos are on another partition. As a result I can clean up, defrag, and backup my C drive very quickly...under 8 minutes. Also my programs and OS are all operating on the fastest outer tracks of my disk. I also used the OS Selector that is part of the software. I created a system partition on my second hard drive and installed a second copy of windows XP along with Adobe Premiere Elements 3. I use this exclusively for movie editing. Resizing partitions was easy and quick and did not require a reboot. I have been pleased with Disk Director 10 and would recommend it to anyone who needs such software. I'm using a Dell Dimension 8400 Desktop, Pentium4 3GHZ, with 2G of RAM and two 160G SATA drives.
