Makes You Sweat!

I was a little skeptical when I bought this DVD, but for the price, I decided to try it out. I must say, for a 20 minute workout, Jillian really works your body!! I have been going to the gym for the past month, and I have never done as much sweating as I did with this dvd. It's split up into 3 different levels so as you progress, you can move onto the next level. I am still on level 1, and I am still getting a full body workout. I will probably be ready for level 2 in another month, lol! The nights I don't go to the gym, I put in this dvd. It's wonderful that it is only 20 minutes long because I work two jobs and time is very limited. I would definitely suggest this video to anyone from beginners to the more advanced. Jillian keeps you motivated and even shows modified versions of the different exercises. Overall, it will challenge and keep you motivated at the same time.

A Manageable and Effective 20.

Great workout, especially for 20 minutes. The varied workout intensities allow for exercise flexabity, so you don't get bored.

Not if you have injuries (or want to avoid them).

Jillian Michaels is using a very effective approach to weight loss: interval training. If you train as hard as you can for a minute or two, and then take the level down for a few minutes, and then back up again--your body will default to the higher calorie burning level. (Maybe we really are running from a sabertooth tiger. Let's keep it up.)

However, she is trying to put too much into one exercise. A lot of the exercises involve weight and speed. Speed and weight separately are good things. Together, not so much. Weight + speed = injury.

Every exercise professional that I can think of, whether it's Bryan Kest and Shiva Rea carefully placing a foot or a hand before putting weight into a difficult yoga pose, Joseph Pilates and the slower speed required by springs, or even the followers of Ken Hutchins (super-heavy, super slow), would tell you to avoid weight and speed.

Unless you are one of those people who magically avoids injury, I would avoid this.

Although, I wouldn't avoid interval training at all--Mari Windsor uses it in her 'dynamic sequencing', as does Callan Pinckney of Callenetics. Interval training by itself without a lot of weight is very effective for weight loss--it's a lot of why both Windsor Pilates and Callanetics were very popular.

Edit: While I'm at it, I'm going to add another complaint about this: my experience with heavy interval training like this, is that it made me, and the clients to whom I suggested it when I was a Pilates teacher, very hungry. We, collectively, decided that we were probably eating the difference, and thus not losing weight.

However, interval training is good; just the gentler Mary-Windsor-Callan-Pinckney-variety. If you can avoid raising your metabolism too much, interval training will help you lose weight.

Effective + Powerful

I LOVE this video!
This workout is simple, strong and effective. You don't need a gym membership or any expensive equipment, just some hand weights and a matt if you are working out on a hard surface. The workout is a circuit: strength, cardio, then abs so you are working everything. The workout time is short, but you are moving your butt the whole way through. I love how the exercises combine moves, like squats with arm curls. I am in pretty good shape and workout one makes me sweat! Plus I enjoy her no-nonsense attitude. I have been doing the workout for about two weeks and I already see changes in muscle tone.

Excellent!!

This is the best product I've ever bought! Jillian is amazing and she WILL give you amazing results all you have to do is give her 20 minutes of your day, only TWENTY MINUTES! Who doesn't have that kind of time? If you can come up with a "good excuse" then you are not serious about losing weight, gaining health, muscle, and a better you!

There are three levels, I'm on my 16th day (level II) and I am definintely seeing great results. I won't lie to you, you probably will get sore the first few days, but don't give up! It's worth it and it goes away! Now, of course if you follow her program but keep up your nutrition with sodas, chips, and burgers, then no, I almost garuntee you nothing will happen. BUT keep up with her program, follow a good diet (no need for extremes here just be sure you're eating healthy while keeping an eye on portions) and you won't be sorry :)
