Works for me

I can add my name to the list of people for whom acid reflux used to be an ongoing nightmare- sometimes literally. It meant having to eat exceedingly slowly, being careful not to bend over or move too soon after eating, not eating spicy food, not eating to close to bed time, and still, sometimes waking up feeling like I'd swallowed shards of glass. My doctor diagnosed acid reflux, and prescribed Ranitidine, generic for Zantac. Zantac is over the counter, but I needed it in prescription strength. Because it was an ongoing condition, I had to go back to my doctor, sit in the office, pay a copay, etc., all just to have my doctor ask, "Still got it?" and write me another script. I had to take Ranitidine twice a day, and it didn't always work.

Since my doctor suggested I give Prilosec a try, I've been completely symptom free- except for when I forget to take it. i usually don't realize that I've forgotten until sometime after lunch when that old familiar fire creeps up my chest and I replay my morning. Inevitably, it there was some change in my routine, and I forgot to take my magic pill. And if I forget to stock up, all I need to do is walk into the nearest pharmacy.

I don't know if Prilosec will work for you, but if you're suffering from fire in your belly, I'd certainly recommend asking your doctor about it.

I just have two negative comments:

1. As stated by another reviewer, the packaging on this stuff is really excessive, and I second that reviewer's withholding of one star as a result. I like being able to keep a few emergency pills in my wallet, but that's the only good reason I can see to have each pill individually wrapped in foil. And when you buy the big box, it contains three individually packaged small boxes. If a bottle with some cotton works for asprin, why not Prilosec?

2. This isn't the company's fault, but it's something those who depend on should be very aware of: This drug is not available without a prescription in some countries, so make sure you bring a good supply when traveling abroad.

Indigestion

My doctor has recommended Prilosec due to my intestinal problems as a result of a stroke.
Next to some prescription drugs, I enjoy a great deal of relief taking Prilosec.
I take the capsul form, but have also heard that it is available in tablet form.

The only thing that works for me!

I have been a Prilosec user for about four years now. In the past, I would do the 2 week recommended period, then stop for a couple of weeks, and continue that cycle. My acid reflux never got any better except on the days I took the Prilosec. The day I would stop it would be right back. Finally, I found out that most people take it as a maintenace medication, so I started taking it once a day without fail and my acid reflux was finally gone forever! I used to wake up all night long with severe esophageal pain, sometimes vomiting right in bed from all the acid. It was such a nightmare. I would end up taking a half bottle of tums which still wouldn't work, and sleep sitting up. I tried every over the counter medication out there with no relief at all until Prilosec. It truly is a miracle drug. For those of you out there with acid reflux, don't suffer any longer! Try this and give it about 3 days to start working, and you will be able to turn your sleep and your life around. Amazon often has specials such as spend $49 on groceries (this qualifies) and get $10 off your order. By all means, double up on Prilosec and do this.... I am now 2 years acid reflux free! It's not so bad, if I miss a day now, I don't suffer at all.

The best treatment for major heartburn :-)

I use this in Australia under the name Losec. It's only available by prescription. However, one day while in the States, I needed a second pill (I usually take only one a day) and they were back in the room. I went to Ralphs and picked this up. It's identical and therefore works just as amazingly. If you really suffer from true heartburn and GERD, try over the counter medications first, and then if unsuccessful, see your physician and see what they have to say. This medication is a true lifesaver. I can't describe what the pain can be like if that acid begins to rise into your upper chest and throat. It kills, but this tames it and I cannot litterally live a comfortable life without it. Only take one a day (although admittedly depending on something you ate or whatever, you may need a second one later in the day). This is the best stuff around.

Works great

I had been using another acid reducer. This works as well as the prescription one.
