Especially good for Mac users
I'm a Mac fan, but one of the downsides of the Apple laptop computers is lack of
USB
2.0 slots. Luckily, the

hub
helps compensate for limited USB 2.0 access. In addition, it also simplifies grouping your USB 2.0 external hard drives so that they can be moved a distance from the computer.
Like others have mentioned, the "powered on" USB 2.0 blue light, while pretty, can be overly bright if the device is used in a bedroom. My solution was to cover the light with a band-aid. The blue shows through the pad portion--so you can see that the device is powered--but the material prevents the light from reflecting into the room. No heating problems because I've not found that the Hub gets warm, even when powered.
I've not had any problems with throughput, other than I have to plug in the hub when first connecting my USB 2.0 keyboard. However, I can then unplug the hub and use just the USB connection for powering after connected. I now power a USB keyboard, mouse, and five external hard drives with the one hub, and I've not had any slowness or faulty connections.
The only reason I didn't give the device five stars is the lack of locking action with the sliding base. Perhaps more bandages...

Does what it's supposed to do.
Got a new Gateway laptop. I tried 2 different docking stations that sup

Video and analog Audio and Ethernet. They worked ok, but not great. The resolution suffered on the Video. There was always some problem when booting.
I changed directions and decided to use VGA out for the external monitor and used a USB converter for the speakers.
The
Cables
To Go 7 is small and has plenty of inputs. It's been running over 2 months with no problems. I now use 4 plugs for the laptop: 1) power 2) USB 3) Video 4) Ethernet
