great training tool!

I highly recommend this product! It is a great training tool and helps to keep you motivated to continue running.

I love this thing

I really like this thing a lot, and it's really cool the way it charts your progress on the Nike+iPod website. You can set your run based on either time or distance (or neither, actually), and a voice will update you periodically with your progress. You can also hit the center button at any time for an update. Holding the center button will automatically play your "power song", that you have to choose before you begin. It would be cool if you could choose multiple power songs, but currently you can only set one. It will attempt to determine calories burned as long as you enter your weight, but I use a heart rate monitor for more accurate results here. The iPod usually reports within 100 calories of the actual number burned, though. Also note that you don't necessarily need the special Nike shoes for this. I purchased a Sport Sensor Nike iPod Sport Kit which works great with any shoe (prior to that I kind of shoved the sensor under the laces, but that didn't work well with one pair of shoes I have and I was afraid I'd lose it). You must, however, have the iPod Nano, as none of the other models are compatible.

performs as expected

Nike sure knows how to market and deliver its products. My wife gifted me with a new iPod nano this past Christmas and being a runner, I knew of the iPod Sport Kit for the Nike+ running shoes. After some thorough research, I purchased the iPod Sport Kit and a pair of the Nike+ 180 Air Max running shoes. Within minutes I had placed the sensor in the shoe and inserted the receiver on my iPod before heading out the door for my run. Pace, distance, total activity time is given audibly at the push of the button. You have a choice to have a female or male voice to report your status, music fades out, voice fades in and when the voice is done and fades out, the music fades back in, very smooth. I barely notice the iPod on my arm, it is so light. The unit can be calibrated to more accurately give you distance. It is activated by moving, so walking or running, you will be able to know how fast you are, how far you have gone, how long you have been out there and and at the end of your activity, the total calories utilized. Each activity is saved, you can pause and continue and for the techno inclined, you can log on to www.nikerunning.com and save your runs to monitor progress and frequency and even let others know how your training has been going. Now only if it could give me my heart rate, it would be truly complete.

Love this product

I love this product sooooo much. It has increased my excitement about fitness. It really helped start exercising a lot more. I did have a problem with accuracy on the first one I purchased, but Apple was very good about exchanging the product for me. However, those of you who are really having a problem, check and see if the sensor is upside down in your shoe. Also, you don't have to get the nike shoe ... you can jsut get a pouch. This is a great solution for me since I already had a great pair of running shoes.

Also, the website is a big part of my enthusiasm for this product. It does have some problems when it comes to adding your runs to your challenges, plus it can be really slow. Despite this, the online challenges, goals and resolutions really force you to get off the couch and run. Especially if you have a competitive nature.

My only complaint is that it doesn't work with all ipod models, but I guess you can't have it all.
