toughskin case

I have an iPhone and now my PowerBook has the toughskin as well. I've dropped my iPhone a dozen times and its protected it beyond my expectations! The clip could be better hence the 4 out of 5 stars, but I can deal with that since it protects my phone so well.

Case is great, clip is the worst.

This case offers an excellent degree of protection to your rather expensive iPhone and it does this without being uncomfortable to hold. It feels very natural in your hands, in fact better than when the iPhone is "naked" which to me feels like a wet bar of soap just waiting to slip out of my grip at any moment. If I have any complaint at all regarding the case it's that it seems to attract dust and pet hair like crazy and it's not particularly easy to remove the pet hair.

The clip is somehow almost completely useless as a clip. I have a "thick" belt, which I would guess is almost twice as wide as a standard men's suit pant belt. There isn't enough room between the hinge and the tooth so that it can securely grip the belt. Ok, so I decided to start wearing my "thin" belt. Well in that case there's a bit of extra room which with this clip seems to give way too much opportunity to falling right off. Being that it's currently winter where I live, this has left me stuffing the entire thing into my coat pocket. I'm not sure what I'll do when we move into spring and summer. This issue with the clip is really disappointing. I had a rather plain, generic type holster for my previous phone - a Sony S710a - and it perfectly gripped just about anything I threw at it. Only now am I realizing just how much I took that convenience for granted.

One positive about the clip is that it works just as advertised as a stand. And it works great propping up the phone in either the vertical or horizontal position. Given the very reasonable price and excellent protection, I have no problem recommending this case. I just wish it had a well designed clip which would have made it perfect.

UPDATE 05/12/2008 - If I could I would downgrade my rating from four stars to two. The clip is just so much worse and so much more of an inconvenience than I would have imagined. It's actually worse than having no clip at all because I've managed have my phone come right off my jeans about three times now which nearly resulted in me leaving it behind wherever I was at the time. It's a good thing the case provides good protection too because my phone has also fallen right off while I was walking or climbing stairs. Do yourself a favor and avoid this potentially rather expensive mistake of a case.

Attractive & Utilitarian

I bought this case based upon looking over at least a dozen other iPhone cases and holsters listed on Amazon. After this one caught my eye, I went down to my local Apple Store to inspect it up close and decided to buy it. While I have yet to drop my iPhone (knock on wood) this case just exudes confidence with its sturdy, yet sleek, silicone knobbiness coupled with the hard plastic cradling holster that has a lock-in-place clip to double as a support stand for your phone... and in my opinion (and obviously many other happy reviewers before me) it just looks f**king COOL!

As far as the drawbacks are concerned, I honestly don't relate to the folks who talk about dust issues. Mine stays virtually immaculate despite going in and out of my jacket pockets, riding on the outside of my jeans during bike excursions (the clip is incredibly secure, by the way), and being handled and ogled upon by all my friends and family members. The only MINOR thing I can drum up is the fact that you cannot place the iPhone on to the dock easily without removing the cradle, and removing the silicone skin. Big deal. Just plug the cord in the bottom and you're accomplishing the same goal as docking by syncing and charging your phone.

I love this case and honestly cannot recommend it enough.

Almost perfect. 4.5 stars due to soft volume protection.

I love this case, but it does have a downside. There is soft protection over the volume controls. So when I reach into my purse to grab the phone, and if I grab the sides, I could be significantly reducing the ringer volume, even when the phone is in lock mode. Or if I'm on the phone with someone and hold the phone wrong, I mute them. It's happened a lot. I don't know what the solution could be. Perhaps a hard cover of just that area? But no, it's nice to access the volume when needed. Perhaps a hard area just around the volume buttons so fingers can grab at it without affect. I'm a bit of a klutz, which doesn't help matters here. Maybe for other users this has not been an issue at all.

Otherwise, this is a great case and I love it. It protects, keeps the phone clean, and is slim and sleek. I use it with a screen protector and it works great. Love the stand, too.

Didn't have the heart to deduct a whole star for the volume thing, so please take this review as 4.5 stars. I recommend this case.
