Bottomline: Great MP3 Player!

This is my first MP3 players, so I can't compare this unit to an ipod or any other MP3 player. I decided to get caught up with the technology age, so I purchased this unit to replace my SONY portable CD player (which still works great), I listen to while at my place of employment and I must say, I am very, very happy with this unit! The sound is great, neat radio and the color screen/monitor is unbelievable. I just can't believe SONY was able to put all of these neat features into this little unit! I no longer have to keep a drawer filled with CDs. I can just download everything on to this unit, put the setting at shuffle and let it rip! No longer looking through my CDs to see what I want to hear, and this unit is a great space saver! I also like the fact that I can connect it to my CPU and recharge it! No longer buying AA batteries for my portable CD player or connecting it to my AC adapter. TWO THUMPS UP FOR SONY!
My advance for all those people who are still stuck in a time warp (like I was), make the jump into the technology age and get rid of your portable CD players and purchase this unit. I guarantee you will be very happy you did!

after reading many reviews including the sony mp3 walkman 616(4gb) and finding out that i am not the only strange person that has be through several mp3 devices (cowan, iriver clix 2 etc.)and listening to a few ipods, i did purchase a sony walkman. good choice.

the good:

sound:

by far the best sound experience by comparison to all i've
tried. but nix the vpt surround sound settings, unless you like an echo chamber.

navigation:

pretty easy for a 74 year old dude.

value:

again, by comparison, cheap at twice the price even if i never
use it. good value.

screen:

bright, clear, excellent graphics

sound control:

dynamic normalizer setting absolutely essential in
controlling the variance in sound volume from one track
to the next.

battery:

don't get any better than this. days, weeks, more. my iriver clix 2, a couple hours at best.

the down side:

must recharge battery by plug in to computer. but very minor issue. on a recent ski trip, i ask the hotel personnel to hook up the their computer for a couple hours.

no plastic protective cover. separate purchase at $20.00. a plastic baggie works.

no arm strap ala ipods. sony is missing the boat. all the ipodders prance around the gym displaying their ipods. a plastic baggie around the neck doesn't cut it. then again a geezer can do anything he wants.

Wow! IPod who?

What an awesome player!! I just got my 8gig. I upgraded the headphones to the Sony High Performance earbuds (I have only found them at Best Buy)and they cost $43 but are well worth it. My live songs sound like I am truly at the concert and the bass is bone rattling. By the way, you do not have to use the Windows Media Player. I found the RealPlayer alot easier to use and had absolutely no problem transferring files whatsoever. This is especially important if you have music from file sharing. Windows Media Player does NOT recognize most of these files and Real Player does.

Handy little thing

At first it was kind of annoying that all of my wouldn't transfer without copying it to a disk. But once I got the hang of it, it went smoothly. There are cool features such a "time machine shuffle" which shuffles songs according to the year they were produced. It holds videos and tons of songs. I don't particularly like napster but I get by it by using rhapsody. I have no complaints!
