Slowest Drive Ever

I plugged it in with Windows XP, Inspiron 1200; it takes forever and forever to copy or delete stuff.

During this it pegs the CPU at 100% utilization, so the machine is pretty useless in the meantime too.

I have no idea what it's doing to take so long.

The WD Passport line is many many times quicker.

Easy to use & compact

I backed up all my data files including music & pictures and only used about 10% of the capacity. Nice product, easy to use & compact.

Saved my bacon

I went on a month long honeymoon to Fiji and New Zealand with my Nikon D300. I purchased and installed successfully a larger hard drive for my Mac Book. Early on I had some system issues that caused the Mac Book to die (try fixing a Mac in Fiji) until I got home.
Fortunately I had purchased this drive as an extra precaution and had been downloading my photos to it nightly. Had an older PowerBook sent over with a small hard drive and used the Iomega to store my 6,000+ photos. Worked perfectly off both FW and USB.
Moral of the story... you can never have too much backup.

Iomega Portable External Drive

So far it has performed flawlessly. It's super quiet & works off of the "firewire" connector. It required no formatting (Mac only). Build quality is the best I've seen & very stylish. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a good looking, small footprint, external firewire drive. Also consider the price for a 250 GIG drive & it quickly becomes a "no brainer".
Hard to beat!!!

Wonderful Little Drive

I purchased the Iomega Ego 160 GB portable external hard drive to use for backing up photos on a 4 month trip to South America. It performed flawlessly and I am very pleased with it. The metal exterior is durable and solid enough to prevent being crushed or damaged in luggage, which is one reason why I chose this one over the plastic cased options. The second selling point was the DropGuard feature. Whatever that may be, I assumed it was something I would need in a travel environment (I can't find a decent explanation of this on their website). Indeed, while it was never dropped, my drive survived being bounced around on several planes, boats, buses, taxis, and extremely bumpy moto-taxi rides, including high altitude use (less air buffer between head and disk). I don't know if the DropGuard functioned in any of these situations, but the disk suffered no damage. The drive immediately worked on several computers with Windows 98, XP, and Vista without needing to install any software or drivers, or without the need for external power. On one older laptop it started to beep and was not recognized, but when I plugged in the secondary pigtail USB for additional power, and it worked fine. That was the only time I needed to plug in the second USB. I did not reformat to NTFS, since computers used in internet cafes while traveling vary widely in age and operating systems. My 160 GB drive currently holds 16,000 photos - highest quality DSLR .JPG files of 3 to 5 MB each, and is only 1/3 full.
