It does have to be cleaned

I have been using this for a couple of years. It does need to be cleaned once in a while. Blow the dust out and wash the trackball. it's easy because you tip it over and the trackball comes out.

Mice pick up dirt from the table, trackballs pick up dirt from your hands. Keep you hands clean and there is less problems.

The only times I saw it skipping, there was dust over the optical sensor. I think the trackball pattern is fine unless the light is obscured.

Good for the money

I purchased this track ball for home rather than office use and it's meeting that purpose adequately. However, when I spend a lot of time doing "mouse work" at home I do start to feel achey in my hand due to the awkward stretch of the design on my hand.

So far I have had no problems with the way it works or its quality which is more than I can say for many other track balls (non Kensington) that I have used.

If you're looking for a reasonably priced track ball, this one is worth a try.

Works well if you have limited manual dexterity

Got this for my 78 year old mother who was a first time computer user, and was having a lot of trouble with a mouse. The trackball helped a ton! I've not used other trackballs, but this has very smooth motion and easy to click buttons. One comment about track balls in general - dragging is somewhat awkward, at least for someone like me who is accustomed to a mouse.

great for a lefty

So far this has been a pretty good mouse. Wanting a trackball and being left-handed, I didn't have a lot of choices. I've had Kensington trackballs before and have liked them but the rollers disintegrated making them unusable, so this time I wanted an optical sensor instead of the rollers for reliabilty and it seems to be fine. This one works well under normal use but quick cross-screen movements can mess it up. That's a rare occurrance and not much of a problem, just startling to have the pointer not be where you're expecting it.

Well Designed. Highly Functional. Good Value

I had used the expert mouse for years, and find this every bit as functional as that larger unit at a fraction of the footprint and cost. Fits the hand well and is completely ambidextrous. Yes, the smaller ball size means a bit more care with very fine pointing, but Kensington's software package gives good control over acceleration (though they should slow down the slowest setting a bit more). Optical design means zero maintenance; a substantial improvement over previous models. Well made, attractive and superior to more expensive competing products. If only all peripherals were this good and provided this much value...
