Don't jump to conclusions!

On "Fashion Nugget" the Cake's songs never seem to go beyond the lowest degree of the musical possibilty an ordinary rock band's instruments can deliver. And here they come again, with "Prolonging the Magic", their third album, still relying on the same old formula. That put you off buying it? Don't jump to conclusions: It's year 2000, and their 1998 album still sounds fresh, as thought it was put out yesterday. You'll have to listen to it time and again. They can do the best with the least. And, you know, that lasts.

See it for yourself. Or hear it, if you will. It will dazzle you with a plethora of heartfelt lyrics over heartfelt melody. The words get bizarre more often than you might expect. You'll bump into cross references, cleverly scattered along. Their minimalistic approach to the music they play proves to be profitable: They manage to convey a broad range of atmospheres. No picks for songs here; as I said, see it for yourself. Get puzzled with its misgiving contents.

It's curious to think that the Cake actually outdid their previous work by means of virtually the same musical elements. They even managed to live through having "Prolonging's" NEVER THERE played ad nauseum on radio stations worldwide. This creative, well woven album shows that music can be more a system than than a form. So, what you're waiting for? Jump into this system: Get it right now and give your own mind a treat!

Up with the Beatles

This album and the first two are some of the best albums i've ever experienced. CAKE are a truly talented and top class act who are releasing a new album in the spring of 2001(hopefully)-definatly one to buy, it'll be much more of the same i'm sure!! Very exciting!!

I think this CD is awesome! I've had it for almost a year and I still listen to it all the time - it never seems to get old to me. The songs sound really cool with the great bass, drum, and horn parts. The lyrics are great too. I like just about every song on the disc. If you love and appreciate good music then you've gotta get this CD.

Some Good Songs on a FAIR Album

I miss their style on "Motercade of Generosity", and the great sequal album "Fashion Nugget". This album leaves me unsatisfied with the band. They have lost a number of musicians, and this may be a big part of it. I think that if this new version of Cake matured together they may make a real comeback on their next album. I loved "Satan is My Motor" and "Let Me Go". The rest of the CD was up and down for me. I recomend buying this CD is you are a Cake fan, but buy "Motercade of Generosity" and "Fashion Nugget" first. And be looking for their new album.
