The New Strong Willed Child
I purchased this for my granddaughter who has two little ones, two and almost four and she is having a time handling them. She states this book has been very helpful for her. It pretty musch describes many of the traits these two girls are presenting and she has gained some insight as to how to handle them. She is finding it pretty hard, especially breaking some of the bad habits she has gotten into in handling them. Hopefully in time she will have a better handle on the situation. Evidentally a good book.
Saved my sanity!!
My mother raised my youngest brother by the techniques recommended in the original edition. When my son turned 18 months I picked up the revised addition. It was one of the best decisions I've ever made!

pro-spanking or not this is a great book.
I remember a few things he said in particular that relieved some tension I was feeling. I am a mother of one
STRONG
WILLED
child
! Nothing I was doing was working and I was not sure about spanking. He reminds us that all kids have their own personalities and that we help grow them in their strengths. Discipline is a big part of growing up and for a parent of a strong willed child this was a very encouraging book and it had some great advice. Don't let the negative reviews fool you. Even if you are anti-spanking just imagine it says time out or whatever. The advice is still great. I recommend this book to anyone. Just in the past 6 months of trying his methods (basically FOLOWING THROUGH with discipline) I can see a huge difference in my daughters behavior. As much as she hate discipline she loves me for it. This book is wonderful and has tremendously helped me stop feeling guilt and shame about her behavior and it also helped me learn some techniques with dealing with her extremely hyper strong willed behavior. It is the OPPOSITE of child abuse. It is loving your child even when they are difficult! He even says that spankings should not be given for every offense. They should be rare. I can't wait to read Bringing up Girls!

If your child is strong-willed, this book is for you
My wife and I both read this book and found it to be excellent. It explained our daughter perfectly as a

. It helped my wife understand that we are not alone and that other parents are going through 2-3 hour tantrums w/ their toddlers. This book helped reinforce what I k

intuitively, and had been trying to explain to my wife, that our daughter was testing her boundaries and was being mischevious and disruptive, on many occasions not because she was tired, hungry or had to go potty, but simply because she was seeing what she could get away with. My wife had read other "permissive parenting" books and was diappointed by their advise, because they didn't work. This book has helped clarify things in our household.
For the record, Dobson does NOT advocate child abuse. There is a huge difference between discipline and abuse that any common sense parent will recognize. This is the first review I have ever written. I felt compelled to write it because we found this book to be so helpful, and to counteract the many 1-start reviews from people who clearly have not read the book and have an anti-corporal punishment agenda.

The Word is The Way
I found "The

" easy to read. I especially liked the fact that Dr. Dobson used the Bible as a Resource. The only part I had difficulty with was Corporal Punishment in the school system - Ruth Koenig RN.,Chy.

generation of parents and teachers. The New
Strong-Willed
Child follows on the heels of Dr. Dobson's phenomenal best seller Bringing Up Boys. It offers practical how-to advice on raising difficult-to-handle children and incorporates the latest research with Dr. Dobson's legendary wit and wisdom. The New Strong-Willed Child is being rushed to press for parents needing help dealing with sibling rivalry, adhd, low self-esteem, and other important issues. This book is a must-read for parents and teachers struggling to raise and teach children who are convinced they should be able to live by their own rules!
