GREAT LEGAL THRILLER

I picked up this book by chance and blew thru it. What a great read. Dont be fooled by the fact that its Christian. Its very violant, wild and deals with lots of topics. The only Christian point of it is that there is lots of hope, hope and the idea of never giving up, a basic religion theme. But its not broadcast in any religious way.

A great legal thriller. I really felt like I got in the minds of the characters. Very well developed. I will look for Singers other books now, based on my good experience with this one.

Simply Brilliant!

Quinn Newberg has a reputation, one he is happy to cultivate - a high priced, high stakes Vegas attorney with charm and vices to spare.

Investigative reporter, Catherine O'Rourke followed Quinn Newberg's most publicised trial yet she never imagined she would one day require his legal services. As she is haunted by dreams and visions of murders, Catherine becomes the focus of a police investigation into a serial killer with a penchant for leaving Bible verses alongside the victims.

As the evidence mounts, Quinn doubts even he can pull off the magic act necessary to convince the jury of Catherine's fractured and broken mind.

Randy Singer returns with his most stellar novel yet and yes, I have read them all. Brilliantly executed with complex characterisation and more twists and turns than a Grand Prix circuit, By Reason of Insanity is the quintessential legal thriller, John Grisham and Scott Turow notwithstanding. I was invested, heart and mind, in the story from the first page with Quinn's courtroom brilliance yet fractured heart, followed by Catherine's vulnerability and painful visions. Quinn, Catherine and Annie's back stories blend easily with the fast paced plot, and the presence of Quinn's young niece is a lovely touch, providing humour and a glimpse into Quinn's soul. Randy ramps up the suspense effortlessly making this a book you simply can't put down. I loved everything about By Reason of Insanity and it will be no surprise to me if it hits the big screen one day!

Fantastic Book -- I've found a new favorite author

This is the first book of Singer's that I've read, but it won't be the last. I literally finished the book and my head is spinning with all the twists and turns the plot took until the last page. This book is a page-turner of a legal suspense. It reminds me of Grisham's early books -- still my favorites of his.

The courtroom scenes are authentic. The characters rich. The faith element finely woven. In fact this book can be enjoyed by all readers -- regardless of faith.

If you're looking for a legal suspense, this book is well worth your time and money!

My first read of Singer...but it won't be my last

Outstanding story keeps the pages turning! Once I got past page 10, I couldn't put it down until I was finished...even read in the car (don't try this at home!).

Very solid, believable characters. An intriguing, insightful story line. And a mystery that keeps you guessing until the end.

I already have another of Singer's books, and can't wait to get started on it!

Great Suspense Thriller

Randy Singer has written another superb legal/suspense thriller.

Although not as well known as John Grisham and Scott Turow, Singer is certainly in their class. Like those two great authors, Singer is an attorney so he has lots of inside knowlege which adds to his stories.

'By Reason of Insanity' features Cat O'Rourke, a reporter for a newspaper in Virginia. While reporting on a series of kidnappings and murders, she has some 'visions' and passes the information along to her police source. She soon becomes a suspect and eventually a defendant as a serial killer.

This book features a wide range of action including: high stakes gambling, multiple personality disorder (disassociative identity disorder), murder, kidnapping, jailhouse brutality, dreams/visions, and much more. There are numerous twists and turns. For quite a long time, I thought that I had the story figured out only to find out that I was totally wrong.

Even though Mr. Singer is a well known Christian author, his work will appeal to a wide audience. Though there are a couple of subtle spiritual elements, there is certainly nothing preachy in his style. I would recommend this book to anyone. I also encourage those who love a great novel to check out his other books. I have read all but two of his (those are on my 'to read' list) and would endorse any of them.

After a series of kidnappings and murders in Virginia Beach, newspaper reporter Catherine O'Rourke experiences disturbing dreams that detail each crime. In an effort to aid the investigation, she shares them with her confidential source--a detective working on the case. Catherine's intimate knowledge of the crimes immediately makes her a prime suspect. When scientific evidence corroborates her guilt, she's arrested and charged with murder. As she begins to doubt her own innocence, Catherine turns to Las Vegas lawyer Quinn Newberg, a high-priced specialist in the insanity defense. Quinn believes in justice, Vegas-style. But he doesn't believe in the supernatural, or that Catherine's dreams are anything other than the result of a fractured personality disorder. Who can understand the human mind? Quinn knows that insanity cases are unpredictable, but nothing had prepared him for this! To win, or even survive, Quinn will need more than his famed legal maneuvering and biting skepticism. On this case, he needs a miracle.
