amazing story of sacrificial love

Wow! A very well-written story told from the viewpoint of several different characters. It illustrates how different events affect people differently and also how we can create scenarios in our own minds in an effort to help us keep from confronting truth...but God who loves us so much won't let us hide for long...

Dogwood is a must read

The book picked up my interest more and more as it went along, and when I got to Part III, I couldn't put it down. The scenes in Part III with the local law enforcement were so gripping. I absolutely loved the unexpected ending of the story, which moved me to tears. The closing chapter has a graceful and ethereal quality like the fade-out of a beautiful melody at the end of a powerful song. I look forward to reading other works from this talented author. This novel, which takes place in a small town in West Virginia, is excellent. It is a creative and soulful story that portrays life realistically while also offering hope. The characters and plot were cleaverly written. The author revealed just enough of the events to keep you intrigued and a little mystified, wondering what will happen next. I also really liked the format of alternating the main characters' viewpoints to present the story.

worth reading

Dogwood is worth reading. A little unbelievable but a good story. The ending did have a twist that I wasn't expecting.

2009 Christy Award winner!
In the small town of Dogwood, West Virginia, Karin has buried her shattered dreams by settling for a faithful husband whose emotional distance from her deep passions and conflicts leaves her isolated. Loaded with guilt, she tries to raise three small children and "do life" the best she can. Will returns to Dogwood intent on pursuing the only woman he has ever loved?only to find there is far more standing in his way than lost years in prison. The secrets of Will and Karin's past begin to emerge through Danny Boyd, a young boy who wishes he hadn't survived the tragedy that knit those two together as well as tore them apart. The trigger that will lay their pain bare and force them to face it rather than flee is the unlikely figure of Ruthie Bowles, a withered, wiry old woman who leads Karin so deep into her anger against God that it forces unexpected consequences.
