Awesome

Riveting!!! I could not put this book down. An eye opening account into the lives of Hamas terrorists and the reasoning behind their misled religious beliefs. This is one brave young man and may god bless him for the life changing decisions and actions that he took to help stop the many terrorist acts aimed at destroying Israel. He went completely against his family, his culture and his faith in which he had grown up believeing in to do what god called him to do saving many lives. He is an inspiration and a hero and I believe that his story will bring many people to know that the one true path to the lord is love in Jesus Christ.

Compassion meets terrorism: A tale stranger than fiction

Authored by Mosab Hassan Yousef, "Son of Hamas" is a riveting book. It is an autobiographical account of his upbringing in the Palestinian territories, where his father co-founded the Hamas movement, only to see living conditions deterioate from bad to worse, as violence, terrorism and security measures strangled what used to be a reasonably functioning society.

The book has a sound, chronological order, taking the reader step by step from childish stone-throwing into intrigue, aquiring arms, confronting secret police through the brutality of prison camps and to the daring solution to the mess: The combination of compassion and courage that caused the author to stay put, yet disclose to the police the innermost workings of Hamas, Fatah and other Shaheed-promoting organisations.

That Mosab Hassan Yousef stepped out of the circle of hate, left Islam for Christianity, and actively worked to protect as many lives as possible are signs of extraordinary compassion and courage. What came of it, the near-complete destruction of the Hamas movement, is a testament to what a single person, at the right place and time, can achieve.

As said, this is a real page-turner, and is - apart from a dizzying cast of characters - an easy read as well, doable for sure in a single day. Well worth it merely for the entertainment value of a great thriller - but profoundly different for being a true story. Unconditionally recommended.

I hope to see it as a major movie production one day. It certainly has what it takes.

Nearly Unbelievable Story...Amazing Man

This book was nearly unbelievable. If Mosab had done only a fraction of what he wrote about, it still would have been amazing! He is one amazing individual. God very definitely put him on this earth for a reason!

As I read, I began looking at the events going on in my life at the time of what was going on in his. He as a child and young adult saw/did so many things he shouldn't have had to. And being the same basic age as he, it brought me that much more appreciation for the life I have lived and respect for what he has done.

And in an amazing 'unexpected' way...if you are a Christian, you will know what I mean... you see God begin to work in him little by little. It is quite a testament to what God can accomplish within a person.

No matter who you are, or what reason you are reading this book for. Whether you like the political history, are curious about Muslim life/Islam , like a good 'spy-story' or to read about a journey to Christianity...this book offers it all! I would suggest it to anyone.

A must read - clarify your understanding of the Middle East

So many good words have already been written, that I am at something of a loss for words. This book is one of the most compelling stories/history that I have ever read - indeed it may be the most interesting historical accounts that I have ever read. Though it is primarily an account of one individual (more on him later), the FACTS that are contained within, make this book far more important, and of greater interest than one individual's account. IT IS THE MOST ACCURATE, INTERESTING (VERY) ACCOUNT OF LIFE IN THE MIDDLE EAST, NOTABLY PALESTINE AND ISRAEL. Do not be put off by the facts of real life, this story of truth is one of the most interesting page turners you will ever read in your life! Even if you are a non-political person, the story is too interesting to ignore.

This book should be required reading for every middle eastern diplomat, from every country in the world. If you are a person who seeks understanding, and like me was continually baffled by the inability of the Arab and Jewish communities to ever find the ability to reach some kind of peace agreement, well this book answers many of those questions - with shocking clarity.

The author is an amazing young man, who weaves through the most violent section of the world, in an eye opening story, of an Arab-terrorist who moves through Palestinian life (strangely Forrest Gump-like set of interconnected circumstances - no insult intended), that leads to world changing activities. The saving of untold number of lives, driven by his conversion from Islam to Christianity; all the while interacting with the primary players in a conflict that dates back to the dawn of recorded time.

This book is very well written, which is to some extent a reflection of his intelligence and apparent personal charisma. Yes, charisma is a strange word to use when describing a former terrorist, I know. But this man, gives great meaning and example to the principles of Christianity, and to the goal of personal growth. His unique combination of Islamic upbringing (within a leading Hamas family)and his emerging Christian faith lead him to take action for peace that surpasses that of virtually any diplomats, or heads of state.

So much has been written about the author's life, that I will not repeat it here. I will simply add my voice to the many who have already noted with amazement his ability to seek God and peace despite being raised in such a historically violent area, and within one of the most militant environments imaginable. And then to essentially put his life at risk (which he has done so many times before in his few years on earth), by publishing his story.

In fact, I found it so interesting, that I read it within one day, and I am going to read it a second time. What higher praise can I offer than that? Read this story, share it with friends, and seek to understand more about the most difficult region in the world. In fact, I hope the President of the United States has read this book! Twice!

Convert to Christ Seeks Peace and Truth

Herein one finds the revelations from a former terrorist and later a counter-agent working for peace as he came to trust Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. This volume is passionate, compelling, and true-to-life. A stirring read that will educate the reader on the workings of terrorists.

The Wall St, Journal offered this editorial: "Mosab Hassan Yousef is a best-selling author who wrote "Son of Hamas" about his life as a Palestinian who became an informant for Israeli intelligence. He's probably near the top of every Islamist terror hit list, yet, incredibly enough, the U.S. may soon deport him as a terror threat.

In 2007, Mr. Yousef came to the United States, where he converted to Christianity from Islam and applied for political asylum. The request was denied in February 2009, Mr. Yousef says, on grounds that he was potentially 'a danger to the security of the United States' and had "engaged in terrorist activity." His case has automatically proceeded to the deportation stage, and on June 30 at 8 a.m. He will appear before Judge Rico Bartolomei in Homeland Security Immigration Court in San Diego..." (WSJ, 6-12-10).

World Magazine recently noted this update: "Mosab Hassan Yousef, 32, the son of a founding member of Hamas, became an informant for Israel--and also a Christian. His father, a senior leader of Hamas, has disowned him. But he has found a home in the United States following a June 30 deportation hearing that lasted 15 minutes and went in Yousef's favor when Homeland Security abruptly dropped its objections to granting asylum, without explanation. Yousef said U.S. officials denied his request for asylum last year because he was "engaged in terrorist activity," citing passages of his autobiographical book Son of Hamas in arguing that he had aided terror groups. Israel came to his defense, with Gonen Ben Yitzhak, Yousef's handler for the Israeli domestic intelligence agency Shin Bet, identifying himself publicly for the first time last month and confirming Yousef's work to thwart Hamas. "Mosab is not a terrorist," Yitzhak said. "He prevented killing; he prevented violence . . . he risked his life every day" (WM, 7-17-10).

"Son of Hamas" powerful, chilling, encouraging, and insightful, yet don't read this right before you go to bed, it may keep you up. Great for the beach and afternoon contemplation.

Since he was a small boy, Mosab Hassan Yousef has had an inside view of the deadly terrorist group Hamas. The oldest son of Sheikh Hassan Yousef, a founding member of Hamas and its most popular leader, young Mosab assisted his father for years in his political activities while being groomed to assume his legacy, politics, status . . . and power. But everything changed when Mosab turned away from terror and violence, and embraced instead the teachings of another famous Middle East leader. In Son of Hamas, Mosab Yousef--now called "Joseph"--reveals new information about the world's most dangerous terrorist organization and unveils the truth about his own role, his agonizing separation from family and homeland, the dangerous decision to make his newfound faith public, and his belief that the Christian mandate to "love your enemies" is the only way to peace in the Middle East.
