May or May Not Change Your Life

A quick and easy read that may or may not "change your marriage." Did it change my life? No. But since it probably only takes a day or two to read through, it might just be worth taking that chance.

I didn't find this book to be overly religious like some of the negative reviews, but I would probably have enjoyed it more if the concept had included evolutionary biology evidence. I thought adding some research findings in psychology would have helped beef up his ideas. Much of his argument for this counseling method was anecdotal which was interesting, but unconvincing.

However, what was convincing was using the book as a sounding board between me and my husband. It sparked some interesting discussion, and we did find that some of his tips were fun and helpful, although I wouldn't say our marriage was any trouble. We found it even more helpful in relating to our children, making me wonder if I should have gotten the kids version instead.

Great Book-Informative

This book has a lot of good information and little ways to improve your relationship.

Good for Healthy and for Struggling Relationships

I originally bought this book on a whim, and I'm really glad that I give into my impulses sometimes.

This book is really helpful and easy to read. I didn't feel that my fiancee and I had any major issues, and I still don't feel that. But we still benefitted from this book.

We found that we actually have the same love language. Though I doubt he'll ever actually read the book, I've discussed it with him and he said that he likes the ideas in the book as well.

So, in my opinion, even if your relationship isn't in trouble, it's still a good idea to get this book. It might help you understand your spouse (and yourself) better.

Very eye-opening book

I purchase this book when my husband and I first started dating and it was very helpful as our relationship progressed. We have been married for four years and I've read this book a few more times since then. It's been a great tool in helping us learn to communicate with each other more effectively.

Please buy this book!

So before writing this review, I read a bunch of the one star reviews and was really shocked at some things. Yes, it is a "christian" self help book, but it's not as bad as some were saying. I guess if you have such a closed mind and you can't simply overlook/skim past any biblical/Jesus references, then this book may not be for you. I actually got this book from the library after searching for marriage self help books and it is currently on my wish list. I personally am fascinated by the "why we do what we do" reasons for how we relate to people, etc. and this was no exception. It was fascinating to me to learn what my love language is and was very thought provoking. At the back of the book, Dr. Chapman has a test to find out your love language and I was even more intrigued when my husband took it. It created some great discussion about how he was raised vs. how I was raised. But seriously, if your one reaon for not buying this book is b/c you don't like "christianity" being "littered" into your self help book, check it out at the library...and try to look past it and get the real reason of the book. Understanding your spouse better...and yourself.
