Great practice tool
I am a former student from Mr. Read's
Trial
Techniques Course at SMU, and I can say without hesitation that this book was the most helpful tool I received in law school (aside from, perhaps, the Blue Book). Even after leaving law school, I consulted "
Winning
at Trial" both in my studies for the practical portion of the Bar, and in actual litigation practice. The recommendations provided by Mr. Read are straightforward and extremely relevant to practicing in court today. The book is easy to read, and well organized, so if you require guidance on a particular aspect of trial, it can be readily found. The examples given are also factually engaging, which makes it an entertaining read. I highly recommend this book to anyone who plans to practice litigation, and to anyone already practicing who is looking to take their litigation practice to the next level.

Winning at Trial is a must read
This is absolutely one of the best books written on
trial
advocacy. It is a must for any serious trial lawyer. There are very few books on the subject, but the author really knows his stuff. From cross-examination to closing this book is a must read. There are very few trial lawyers in the profession today, take this advice from a criminal prosecutor who is in the courtroom all the time--get this book and it will provide insight into subjects very few people can duplicate.
Excellent Trial Skills Book
This book is excellent and very useful to not only mock
trial
law student participants, but also to seasoned trial attorneys. It is enjoyable to read because it contains lessons that are understandable plus it includes transcripts from actual trials to illustrate the lessons. Also, the videos are instructive and fun (funny) to watch. This is the first trial practice book that I have read that actually explains why the 'old school' way of trying a case is not necessarily the best way to try a case.

Great book
This book is very helpful to understand the different parts of
trial
. It also prepares you to appear before the court and helps you become more comfortable in giving opening statements, cross examinations, etc. I would definitely recommend this book. It has helped me tremendously.
How to learn from the lawyers
I think the book it is useful and very interesting, but the better are the DVD of
trial
s. The only fault is that it would have been better wether the examples were more.
Winning
at
Trial
uses innovative techniques to teach students and experienced lawyers alike the art of presenting a clear and compelling case in order to win at trial. These skills are gained first by observing then by doing, and in Winning at Trial the reader is enabled to do just that by analyzing transcripts and viewing almost four hours of footage from the O. J. Simpson trial and a focus group deliberating a civil trial. This book is one of the most comprehensive trial advocacy resources published in recent years. Students, lawyers, judges, and librarians alike will benefit from Read's wisdom.
