Restored my life
I thought that I was just getting older and had to accept not being able to bend or turn my head, or sleep at night or roll out of bed, etc etc. When I bought this book and tried the techniques it made me feel 10 years younger. I have restored my flexibility and eliminated
pain
s that I had lived with for years. I had tried physical
therapy
which made things worse, chiroprators had no effect and had become resigned to a limited life.
A wise investment
I was surprised to see the book doing so well in sales, and am glad
Trigger
Point
Therapy
has caught on. The book is very thorough in the
self
-treatment as well as understanding what causes the specific
pain
. The index is laid out well also, unlike the other book in the same subject I have. I did wish the book included stretches after the release of the Tr points, but I still recommend this book over the one that has the stretches. My wife had no need of stretches after the release, but it helps me a little to keep it stretched throughout the day. Pain or no, the book is fascinating in explaining the wonderful human body that we abuse and misuse.

Well along the road to recovery thanks to this book!
Over a year ago I overworked my left shoulder doing overhead presses. I tried the usual cold/heat and Vitamin M (Motrin) with no luck. I was unable to put on a shirt without sharp
pain
and had lost most of the strength in that shoulder. Regular trips to the Chiropractor helped re-align my neck but did little to relieve the pain and, a year into treatment, I tried theraputic massage. This resulted in a dramatic improvement but the pain and weakness, while less, was still very much there. The massage therapist called it scar tissue that needed to break up. Once my insurance stopped paying after the
second
visit I was left on my own to treat it. I then knew that massage was the key but had no idea what I was doing.
This book zero'ed me in on the cause, my scalenes and the T3/T4 area of my Traps. Within one week I have had dramatic improvement, to the
point
where I can do dips for the first time in over a year! Working the points in my scalene's has been very painful, with referred pain to the exact areas she outlines in the book. Regular
self
massage and a tennis ball is succeding where a year and a half of chiro appointments failed.
You can't fix what you don't know is broken. It is very simple to identify a
trigger
point once you know what to look for, and where. I had actually found the scalene problem early on but thought I was pressing on a nerve due to the pain. This book cost less than one chiro visit and could have brought me
relief
a year ago. It's foolish not to rule out a trigger point as a cause of
your
pain. This book is staying on my shelf.

Trigger
point
therapy
is one of the most intriguing and fastest-growing bodywork styles in the world. Medical doctors, chiropractors, physical therapists, and massage therapists are all beginning to use this technique to relieve formerly undiagnosable muscle and joint
pain
?conditions that studies have shown to be the cause of nearly 25 percent of all doctor visits. The technique involves applying short, repeated massage strokes to trigger points, tiny contraction knots in muscle tissue where restricted circulation and lack of oxygen cause referred pain. Trigger points create pain throughout the body in predictable patterns characteristic to each muscle, producing discomfort ranging from mild to severe. Trigger point massage increases circulation and oxygenation in the area and often produces instant
relief
. This dynamic technique has made a huge impact among health professionals and the public alike, becoming an overnight classic in the field of pain relief. The book has sold over 220,000 copies since the release of the first
edition
in 2001. The
second
edition is a complete update and includes a new chapter specifically for massage professionals, as well as a chapter on systematic muscle relaxation techniques that can reinforce the therapeutic power of trigger point work.
