Everyone should read this book.
This book should be read by anyone who is effected
by
ADHD
. Teachers, Aunts & Uncles, Grand
parents
and
close family friends. You may want to order a copy
for yourself and one for your childs teacher.
The book was easy to read and helped me understand my child better
and it gives you "parent relief" too.
A wealth of real life information and parenting tools
This was a great book for me to learn so much about
ADHD
. It seems pretty current in research on what has and can be done. It was not an easy read for me but the amazing scope of contents and depth of specifics, discussions, and issues was just wonderful to find in one book.
My wonderful young grandson provides my motivation for my quest of knowledge, and that will be ongoing. I would not have wanted a lesser book just to get finished more easily or be lulled by one side of issues. I'll restudy and work with this material now and keep this book handy for future reference. The specifics of the 8 week parent training program seem really excellent and should help me improve our relationship and help our time together to be much more positive.
I will be getting other ADHD books, etc. and going to conferences, but I believe this book will "be a hard act to follow."

Taking Charge of ADHD
This is an excellent book. I have a Master's degree in Special Education and have worked in my field for some time. I have heard many professionals talk about
ADHD
. I thought I knew something.....until I read this book. As a parent of a child with ADHD, this book is a must have. If you have accepted your child's disability and truly want to help him or her, buy this book. You will learn how your child's brain is functioning as well as correct parenting styles for you to help your child succeed and have a happier home life.

The Best Book that I recommend.
There are a lot of books from so-called experts.
The reality is that the best book out there is Barkley's
ADHD
and The Nature of Self-Control.
However, that book is meant for professionals.
This book is the parent version of the book.
It is meant to deliver the best facts, pure and simple.
I say that as someone with ADHD for all my life and an educational psychologist for almost a decade.

Good reference material
I'm a year into the search for help for my 8 year old son with AD/HD. Reading this book at first was a drag....I have been on the internet and learned a lot about the whys and the hows. However, what was very helpful were the parts about how to handle social situations and others reactions to the situation. It's hard to explain over and over why your kid is on drugs to your friends when they don't "see" the problem. At least this book gave me some vindication that I am in fact doing the right thing. I guess you could say it's a good security blanket.
A treasured resource, this book empowers
parents
by arming them with the knowledge, expert guidance, and confidence they need to ensure that their child with
ADHD
receives the best care possible. Dr. Barkley explains what the latest research reveals about the nature of ADHD, its causes, and the most effective treatment strategies. Described are the problems that children with the disorder typically face as they grow from toddlerhood through adolescence, and associated challenges facing the whole family. Drawing on decades of influential clinical work and research, the book provides concrete suggestions for improving children's behavior and school performance, enhancing their self-esteem, and restoring harmony to the home.
