Old Rock Freak
This is the Allman Brothers at thier best. Only problem is the interviews. What was played of Blue Sky was completely done with interviews. Interviews should be in thier own section not taking up time of the music. And Blue Sky should have been played in it's entirety not just the instumental.
The Allman Brothers Band - Live at Great Woods
As a long time fan of The Allman Brothers Band, including seeing them
live
, "Live at
Great
Woods
" is a worthy part of any fan's concert footage collection. Some of the negative reviews are ignorantly based on a few edits that cut to historically important and brief interviews during the show. In fact, the brief interviews are placed at edit points that were chosen because of the repetition of a long jam, for example. It was just the edit style of the time period.
The overall performance shows the ABB, especially Greg Allman with some fire still in his playing, singing, etc. He is into this gig so to speak. Betts and Haynes are paired up nicely in this mid-career band format and the drums and percussion are stellar as always. There were to few shots of Butch Trucks in this film but he set's the pulse either way. Allen Woody is the unsung player in this performance and never misses a note.
If you like this style of music and understand that The Allman Brothers Band has many "evolutionary points" in their infamous career, Live at Great Woods will be a welcome addition to your collection. It captures this period of their music very well.
For first timers, it's a good place to start but I would encourage looking back in time to see where they come from, then move to the present. Concert footage of The Allman Brothers Band is still in short supply considering the increadible time span of their long running career.
In other words, what is available is actually good and should be appreciated.

This 1991 concert is excellent with the best lineup since the original band (69-71) were all around and making
great
music. Warren Haynes makes for an excellent 2nd lead guitar with Dickey Betts and the band plays many of their classic tunes including extended versions of Elizabeth Reed and Jessica. don't buy the dvd as the editing is awful - but do get the vhs for all the uncut tunes.

Glad I read the Reviews on Amazon
This Is for the VHS version on the Allman Bros.
Great
Woods
Show. The Sound and Picture quality are top shelf for a vhs. Can't believe that they would chop up the DVD version. Summer Time, Upstate NY and the Allman Bros. It doesn't get any better. If you saw the Saratoga performing Arts center show that year this will bring back Great Memories. Pay attention to the other reviewers and stay away from the dvd, I'm glad I did.
