It's Amazing How Well This Author Weaves So Many Happenings Into One Novel!

The Widow Of Larkspur Inn is a wonderful beginning to a really great series.
I was amazed by how well the author thoroughly covered so much in just one novel.Character development was excellent, and I came to love the Widow Julia Hollis and her three children plus her former servant Fiona, and even the formerly arrogant butler Mr. Jensen, and the new people we get to know when Julia, her children and Fiona move to the village of Gresham, where after the death of Julia's husband, sits the only thing she has left from her marriage(besides painful memories)is a run-down,abandoned for eight years, coach inn.

The story of all they lost and why,and their new beginning in Gresham thanks to the amazing way God can work through people is an amazing story of hope despite what appears to be insurmountable odds, and at the same time, totally realistic and believable.

There is so much going on,that this is much more than a romance book, but there is romance as well.I loved reading the history of the old inn's ghost, and getting to know the residents of Gresham. Mixed in with the story of pain of past hurts there are wounds healed, much personal and spiritual growth, even some suspense and humor.

Readers will love how Julia's son Phillip becomes friends with two boys in the village and how they deal with the sons in a disreputable family, who are the village's bullies.

I was so glad that I had book 2 in the series The Courtship Of The Vicar's Daughter here,so that I could immediately revisit Gresham and it's residents again!

There is no profanity or bodice ripping in this book,so for readers who are not looking for one of those,I highly recommend The Gresham Chronicles to lovers of clean, beautiful historical fiction/romance,with such quality writing and character development that you will feel that you have moved to the village of Gresham yourself and are part of the Hollis family adventure to bring Larkspur Inn back to life, and make a living for yourself for the first time. There is so much here that everyone could relate to.

The best in Christian fiction

Very enjoyable and easy reading, very well written with just the right amount of self-deprecating humor. The plot moves from one character to another as they face realistic challenges in their relationships and circumstances. Lawana Blackwell knows how to entertain without inducing depression or adrenaline rushes, and the books are clean and wholesome without being simplistic or sappy.

These first three books of the Gresham Chronicles are some of the very best Christian fiction books of the hundreds I have read. The fourth book in this series is not as good as the first three, but it does tie up a lot of loose ends and is still pretty interesting. Nothing earh-shattering or astonishing happens in the books, just real people dealing with everyday decisions doing the best they can.

I would recommend this book highly to anyone.

Wow, it's like they're real people!!!!

I first read this series many years ago and fell in love with Ms. Blackwell's stories. I say I "first read" it because I've actually read this whole series at least three times (obviously it's my favorite one, so far), and I still laugh out loud and enjoy it as much as the first time! I've lent the book to my daughter and to all of my friends who like historical Christian fiction, and they adore them as well. Ms. Blackwell, I would LOVE to see the Gresham Chronicles done up into movies! They remind me of Anne of Green Gables with their country charm and wonderful character development! THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
