A different type of vampire story!
I just finished this book, all in one sitting! I couldn't put it down (it's now 3a.m.!). I love the sexual tension between Rowan, the witch, and "vampire Rick". Rick's attitude was definitely not like the usual vampire male's, and I found it hilarious to read about a vampire "horndog"! I've read, and enjoyed, Laurell K. Hamilton, Charlaine Harris, and Mary Janice Davidson. I will be adding Morgan Hawke to this collection, and I can't wait for Book 2!
4 1/2 stars just short of outstanding
Rowan is a witch who is a reference librarian and supplements her income by fortune telling at a Goth club where she sees Rick (a vampire--who would suspect one in a Got club)? A number of other examples of humor sometimes broad but never as off the wall as Jaid Black. A number of well written erotic scenes, comparable to Angela Knight but not as frequent. Not as out there as the Authors Interstellar Service & Discipline: Victorious Starwith its extreme sex.
Overall a plot that falls just short of excellent. One of the strong points is that the main villain appears to be a sociopath rather than a traditional villain. He has a bunch of people killed by monsters because it is a convenient means to his goal. There are other players here that are running both the main villain and the ancient vampire but we never see their masters or their masters goals. The structure is well done as everything isn't laid out in detail--just like real life, there are always answers missing.
The characters are compelling and very well drawn.
What saves this book from 5 stars is persistent editorial and factual errors. Rowan's first awakening of her powers with her first sexual encounter is very rough (her powers depend on sex). There are other spots including guns and inconsistencies. If these were absent I would rate this as outstanding.
Still an excellent read.

Not too bad.
Surprisingly entertaining. Not the best book I've read, but hardly the worst either.
Caught in a power struggle between two vampires, Rowan must use her wit and her witchcraft to keep the older more powerful vampire Klaus, from making a snack out of the far younger Rick while fending off the younger vampire's amorous intent. And then there's the Bad-Guys.
