Important Subject/Bad Production

I am presently in the process of reading this book. It is a great summarization of important geopolitical
issues that generally escape the attention of most Americans. It makes a good companion to Malachi Martin's "The Keys of This Blood." The other reviewers have illuminated the subject matter, so I won't be repetitive.
I do think that the author leaves himself vulnerable to dismissal, however, by his substantial use of secondary sources and quotes from other conservative authors (Bill O'Reilly, Tony Blankley, Stephen Hayes, etc.). BUT, my main disappointment with this book is the extremely SLOPPY production that Regnery has allowed. The discerning reader will notice all-too-frequent grammatical/syntactical confusions and punctuation errors that undercut the strength of the book, which deserves a top quality production. One has to wonder what kind of editorial staff Regnery employs. Either Chandler is a very poor writer (which I doubt) or the book was rushed to production and distribution before all the necessary "combing out" was accomplished. This is disappointing, especially in view of the subject's importance.

Good diagnosis - but what's the treatment?

The author provides a good description of the major threats facing the US today: Russia and its proxies, Salafist Islam, and internal subversion from "progressives" (Leftists) in league with the other two. Where I might disagree with Chandler is in his weak characterization of the problem of China. He seems to view China simply as Russia's lackey, not as an actor with an independent strategy of its own, which is also inimical to Western values in general and the United States in particular.

The main problem with the book is that it is all disease, no cure, and thus amounts to a demoralizing statement of gloom and doom. The book needed a final chapter on "what to do" - how do we address the problems previously described and preserve our freedom and national sovereignty? How do we beat this formidable array of bad guys? This book was written just before the election, and towards the end of the book he asserts that the "progressives" regard Obama as the President who will make decisive steps towards socializing America. If that's true, then is the game over now, America's done? Or can freedom and prosperity still be preserved and advanced? The book lacks any such discussion, and I for one am tired of prophets of doom who have no prescriptions for avoiding doom.

Parenthetically, by the end of the book, the reader will be VERY tired of an obscure Italian communist named Antonio Gramsci. The guy is mentioned on practically every page as the mastermind behind the Russian strategy for world domination and the American domestic Left's agenda for destroying American culture. That may be so, but I got a little fed up with the endless repetition of this point.

One of the other reviewers is correct in pointing out that the production of this book is somewhat shoddy: there are a significant number of grammar, spelling, punctuation, and editorial mistakes that should have been fixed before printing. The author's tendency to quote blogs as sources detracts, to some degree, from the credibility of the book.

This book is very important for understanding the world politics, social movements and things to come.

Incredible Overview of World Events Today!
