Nice western with a spirited heroine

What could have been a boring novel became a rather likeable story thanks to a spunky spirited heroine and a few plot twists along the way.

Lily Wickham is a New York City governess who always looses her jobs because she is a klutz, she trips, breaks things and basically has little grace. So when the Mother Abbess from the orphanage she's called home, tells her there is a man in Wyoming needing a governess, she jumps at the opportunity.

Ray Malloy thinks he is getting an old, ugly spinster to teach his child, after all the lady is from a convent. He is surprised to see a twenty-six year old beauty alight from the train. He knows this will be trouble.

Ray is divorced and has no intention of ever marrying again after his first wife left him. He has a five year old daughter, Mel, with a real potty mouth. In fact, the one aspect I did not like about this novel is that the author attributes Mel with more wisdom than a typical five year old. She speaks and thinks much more like a modern thirteen year old.

Lily is going to take charge of her little charge and this is a task as the girl hates having a governess. Lily is very proper without being self righteous. She is above all approachable and lighthearted. Her klutziness makes her a unique figure and her haunted past at times makes her unsure of herself.

Ray is sure that he desires the new governess and even though he really does try to resist her they begin to share heated embraces. Ray is passionate and so is Lily. But although she wants to marry, Ray seems opposed. They make a dynamic duo especially when someone threatens Ray's daughter. This is a pleasant romance with a charming heroine.

Joyfully Reviewed!

Ray Malloy needs help in the worst way. His daughter has been allowed to basically run free and now Ray has a five-year-old varmint on his hands. Ray loves his daughter Melody more than anything in this world and wants her to be taught how to be a proper lady so he decides to hire a governess from the east coast to teach Melody girly stuff. Ray doesn't count on his attraction to the governess nor does he realize just how much she has to teach him as well.

Lily Wickham is running out of options. Fired yet again for her perpetual clumsiness and inability to be unattractive, Lily has nowhere else to go but back to the nuns who raised her after the death of her mother. It is there at the convent that Lily is given one more chance to become the governess she knows she can be. Francesca Malloy, the Mother Superior's best friend from childhood, has written and asked that Mother send a governess to Wyoming to help her son take control of his hoyden daughter. Lily isn't sure that she is cut out for Wyoming but finds herself a mere two months later stepping onto a train.

Lily arrives in Wyoming and is greeted by the rudest man she has ever met. How dare he instantly think she is unacceptable? Lily vows then and there that she is going to show Ray Malloy a thing or two. Well, if she can keep her clumsiness and nervousness at bay.

Lily shows Ray and his daughter many things in the weeks that follow. It is two bad that a blight from Ray's past has decided that his daughter is up for grabs. It will take Lily and Ray working as a team to overcome this evil. Things that Ray thought he dealt with a long time ago come to the surface and past hurts are verbalized. Lily must strive to recreate her less than dignified upbringing in order to keep Ray's daughter safe.

The Treasure by Beth Williamson struck me right in the gut. Ray Malloy is one of the orneriest and loneliest heroes I have ever read about. Throughout the book I thought that if I could just smack him one time I would feel better. However, wanting to do bodily harm to Ray soon was overpowered by my need to hold him in my arms and assure him that things would be just fine. Lily, in all of her clumsy glory, made me smile. Her tenacity and inability to give up on Ray and his daughter was just delightful.

The Treasure by Beth Williamson was by far the most touching and heart wrenching novel I have read from Ms. Williamson. Full of hurt and past pains, I clenched my teeth at times and prayed for the best. When it happened, I laughed in glee for a story well told. Ms. Williamson continues to bring to life this wonderful family and I anxiously await the continuation of this series!

Romantic Old West

I liked this book best so far in the Malloy series. Ray was a sexy Alpha that has a broken heart and his Lily gives him all the love he needs. Sweet and sexy along the same lines as Sara McCarty but a bit more tame.

When a clumsy governess from New York meets a lonely, bitter rancher, more than her heart will fall. Book 4 of the Malloy family series. Ray Malloy is a single father in an age when every child has two parents. Abandoned by his shallow wife, he struggles to find the balance between being a father and being a successful rancher. At the end of his rope with his wild child daughter, he hires a governess from New York to teach his daughter, Melody, to be a lady. Lillian Wickham is desperate for a job, poor as a church mouse, and determined as a bulldog. Arriving in Wyoming to a chilly reception, and saddled with a five-year-old girl that could be mistaken for an incredibly, dirty little boy does not daunt her. Ray is determined to avoid women completely, to ignore Lillian's luscious figure, ruby red lips, and husky voice. Lillian is determined to turn Melody into a lady, come hell or high water, and avoid the hellion's devastatingly attractive father at the same time. Until one night when Lillian's clumsiness drops her right into Ray's arms and their passion takes on a life of its own. When unexpected danger steals into their lives, and threatens the stubborn child they both love, will their passion be strong enough to survive, or will it tear their world apart? Warning, this title contains the following: explicit sex, graphic language, some violence.
