"The Ancient Greek Gods are not dead. They are still running around inside us. ... Jungian psychologists usually refer to them as the `Archetypes'.

As a young girl, I was fascinated by Greek mythology. To me, these stories seemed to have a life of their own. Each God and Goddess had such a well defined personality and complex relationships that spoke to me across the ages. The lessons that I learned from these accounts were just as valid then as they were when they were first created.

Later on, when I was introduced to Jungian theory and the concept of archetypes, I started to see something a little deeper in my beloved mythology. This intrigued me.

So when I saw The Gods Within, I had to pick up the book. This text includes a personality diagnostic, made up of keywords describing various personality traits. Using this easy to use system, the reader then finds out which Greek God or Goddess archetype that he or she most needs to explore. Ten main personality types are thoroughly described with a number of subcategories slightly modifying each. The reader is then encouraged to explore and embrace this archetype through a series of exercise: self-enquiry, invocation, meditation, and remedial activities.
