Yogabody:Anatomy,Kinesiology,andAsana
I love this book. Not only for yoga but for my massage practice. It is clear, easy to read, and easy to understand.
Great yoga anatomy Book
This is one of the more comprenhesive books on
anatomy
for yoga that I have read. I specially like the exercises where you get to explore anatomy with yoga poses at the end of each chapter.
A great book to read for the rest of your life!
Judith's seventh book is so enjoyable, crystal clear and well-written, that I keep it in plain view for easy reference and inspiration. This is her Life Work, a book she planned many years ago, back in the 1970's, when she was my teacher at the Iyengar Yoga Institute in San Francisco. Yoga teachers like myself, who have many older beginners in their classes, especially need a more in-depth understanding of the basic structure of the human body and how it works. This is another great book to help "yogabodies" of all ages move safely and with less difficulty or pain. Judith's love for her subject, and her philosophy that "yoga is an act of kindness," is reflected on every page!

Not for the average yoga practioner
Unless you know all the bones of the body, all the sanskrit names of the poses, and are very familiar with all the medical orientations of the body (anterior, posterior, medial, etc.), you will have a very difficult time understanding most sentences in this book. It is quite hard to follow, and frankly not that useful to me.
I found Yoga
Anatomy
by Kaminoff to have much better illustrations and the text was much better connected to the illustrations. I also found the descriptions of what muscles are at work and are being stretched in each pose much more useful.

In
Yogabody
, author Judith Hanson Lasater writes, "You can't fully understand the dynamic movement of
asana
without first understanding the basic structure of the human body." Drawing on almost 40 years' experience as a yoga teacher and physical therapist, she focuses here on macro
anatomy
and
kinesiology
in relationship to asana practice and teaching. Organized into five parts ? the locomotor system, the vertebral column, the lower extremity, the trunk, and the upper extremity, Yogabody covers the body's bones, joints, connective tissue, nerves, and muscles. This valuable guide builds on what yoga teachers already know and enables them to quickly decide what might help their students move with more enjoyment and less difficulty. It helps yoga students understand how their own body functions. Packed with color anatomical drawings, black-and-white diagrammatic asana illustrations, and helpful charts, Yogabody is the Gray's Anatomy for yoga teachers and students.
